SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A couple of thieves hosted an unintentional comedy act after surveillance cameras captured them making a huge mess inside a Normal Heights salon. Salon Bordeaux is reaching a big milestone."We are getting ready to celebrate our 14th anniversary here on Adams Avenue," salon co-owner, Laura Price said. But Price in not quite ready to celebrate. "Somebody threw a rock through a window and climbed through," Price said. Just before 2:30 a.m. Friday, their surveillance cameras caught two people attempting a smash-and-grab at the salon. One of the men threw a rock through the side window and climbed through. The two headed straight to the counter. They pried open the cash drawer with a crowbar and took off. But not before one of them tripped over and broke the side table. He then realized he forgot his crowbar, so he climbed back in to get it, and hurried off.But Price said the joke's on them. "Fortunately, we do not keep any cash in the salon overnight, so they didn't get much, except for hopefully some injury from the glass," Price joked. This isn't their first break-in. Almost four years ago to the day, Salon Bordeaux was one of 15 small businesses in Normal Heights to be a victim of burglary. Back then, criminals got away with ,000, their client appointment book, and computer."We learned a lot from the first incident, and this time we were ready," Price said. Since then, they installed multiple security cameras. They never leave cash overnight and instilled new safety practices. So this time, the clumsy thieves made off with nothing. "We just want to spread the word and make sure that other businesses are as prepared as we were this time. It could've been a lot worse. None of the staff was hurt, and really, all we have to do is deal with the glass and replacing it," Price said. San Diego Police has not made any arrests at this time. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A BB gun shooting spree has neighbors frightened Sunday after more than a dozen incidents across San Diego.At the corner of L Street and Sixth Avenue a woman was shot in the arm overnight, according to San Diego Police. She was walking in a small group and one of the men was an exhibitor at Comic Con, staying at the Omni Hotel, where they were headed before the shooting. That man, Sal Abbinanti, said "The girl I was with said a guy in a white car in the back seat, she heard a trigger sound and then she's like oh I think I just got shot which kinda got out attention and then we saw it was bruised and bleeding and it looked like a BB." "There's just so much security down here, so many San Diego police down here. I was surprised that this guy was dumb and brazen to do something like that," he said the hotel provided excellent care to his friend.Over in National City and Paradise Hills, at least a dozen cars were hit.Coronado Police say at least 11 businesses were hit.Downtown, police reported four more instances of people being shot at or hit by BB guns.The rash of crimes comes after 10News reported more than a dozen businesses and car windows busted by BBs in the past month:June 24th – Numerous vehicle windows were vandalized in the Point Loma, Ocean Beach and Mission Hills neighborhoods.July 1st and July 2nd - Three businesses in the Hillcrest neighborhood were vandalized.July 2nd - Two businesses in the Park West neighborhood were vandalized.July 2nd and July 3rd – Numerous vehicle windows were vandalized in the Clairemont neighborhood.July 6th - Three businesses and one vehicle were vandalized in the Midway area. A dark colored SUV is suspected in these cases.July 7th - Five businesses in the College area were vandalized.July 8th - One home in the Lake Murray neighborhood was vandalized.According to California law, negligent discharge of a BB gun resulting in injury could mean up to a year in jail.Police from the corresponding agencies are working on these cases. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A first of it's kind scholarship is up for the taking for female high school seniors pursuing a college sports career.Solana Beach athletics wear company, HYLETE, calls it their "GRACEDBYGRIT" scholarship."We all experience these gritty moments in our lives and those gritty moments are what define us, they give us our strength and it's what you do with those gritty moments that gives you your grace," Vice President of HYLETE Kate Nowlan said.Nowlan played Softball and swam in high school. She said sports have a huge impact on young women, "they have a greater chance of success professionally but also their self confidence is higher."A 2014 Ernst & Young and espnW study found 52% of female executives played sports in college. "This is one small way we can contribute to someone's success," Nowlan said, referring to the ,000 scholarship they're awarding for the first time.High school seniors must have a minimum 3.0 GPA, be pursuing college sports and have a story of overcoming adversity. The applicant must write an essay and complete a short video describing that trying moment and how it taught her grace.Nowlan said her grit came when she was 20-years-old and became Maggi's mother, "she was often in my front pack while I finished my degree which was definitely a graceful way of doing it, but a really hard time in my life." She said she's thankful for the support system she had that helped her through it."We're hoping we can raise more awareness toward the foundation, raise more money, give out more scholarships," she said.HYLETE gives 1% of all women's apparel sales to the GRACEDBYGRIT foundation scholarship fund. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) --  At 14 stories high, The tower apartments in downtown San Diego have some nice views. But when you're trying to get down without an elevator - it can be a challenge. Carol Clark says she was left with no choice but to take the stairs from her 13th-floor apartment to go the grocery store on Thursday afternoon. "I did it today but trust me I was breathing heavy when I came in," she said. Clark is one of the 200 senior residents living in the high rise building - a building designated for people over the age of 65. The residents say they've lost count on how many times they elevator has gone out. That's why they decided to call 10News for help. Although the second elevator was working when 10News arrived, residents tell us that wasn't the case for most of the day. They say it's something that happens a lot lately. "There are people here with walkers and wheelchairs," Clark said. "I'm scared to death for them."One neighbor in a wheelchair broke down in tears during our interview. "It's people's safety," he said. "Not just mine, but everybody else."The building is undergoing renovations - which residents say they appreciate. But they say the upgrades don't make it ok to shut down one of the two elevators and leave them with an elevator that they describe as unreliable at best. "Everybody is extremely upset," Clark said. "And the thing is we don't seem to be getting many answers."The residents told 10News they've taken their concerns to management many times but have seen no changes. They say they hope something is done soon, before an emergency happens and it's too late. 10News called the on-site manager and the property management company but have not yet received a response. "It's a stressful situation not knowing if something happens are they gonna be able to get downstairs," Clark said.   1901

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A famous San Diego bike trail is open just in time for July 4. Wednesday, SANDAG opened a one-mile stretch of the newly-relocated and upgraded Rose Canyon Bike Path. The path is a segment of the Coastal Rail Trail that stretches along Interstate 5 from north Santa Fe Street to just north of State Route 52. SANDAG says the path will eventually connect to the future 44-mile Coastal Rail Trail, which will extend from Oceanside to Downtown San Diego. According to the agency, the Rose Canyon Bike Path is part of a Complete Corridor, running along the future Mid-Coast Trolley light rail line. 622
