Developers of East County’s Fanita Ranch project will try to win over residents at a meeting Wednesday night. 10News first covered the housing proposal in 1999. SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – Airbnb announced Thursday that it’s banning all parties and events at the listings on its website to comply with limits on gatherings during the coronavirus pandemic.The San Francisco-based company says the party ban applies to all future bookings on Airbnb and it will remain in effect indefinitely until further notice.Additionally, Airbnb says the occupancy at its listings will be capped at 16 people. Though, the company says it’s considering a potential exception process for specialty and traditional hospitality venues, like boutique hotels.“We also understand that 16 is not a magic number, and issues can occur with groups of any size,” wrote the company. “To be clear, we are not sanctioning smaller gatherings with this policy and all community members are expected to comply with local health restrictions on gatherings. We are capping guests at 16 in these large properties as one step amongst several, all designed to mitigate any efforts to misuse an Airbnb for a party.”Airbnb says guests will be informed about its party rules and told that they may be “legally pursued” by the company if they violate the policy.Unauthorized parties have actually always been prohibited at Airbnb listings and the company says 73% of its listings already ban them in their house rules.Over the last year or two, Airbnb has begun imposing stricter limits, starting with a global ban on “party houses,” or listings that create persistent neighborhood nuisance. And when the COVID-19 pandemic hit, a new policy was introduced that required all users to adhere to local coronavirus mandates.“However, in many large jurisdictions, public health mandates on gatherings have changed – and in some places swung back and forth in response to the changing rates of COVID cases – as have regulations on bars, clubs and pubs,” wrote Airbnb. “Some have chosen to take bar and club behavior to homes, sometimes rented through our platform. (KGTV) — San Diego Sheriff's Department officials say no charges will be filed against a couple who wore a swastika mask at a Santee grocery store in May.SDSO said after investigating there wasn't enough evidence to charge the couple with a crime.On May 7, SDSO says a man and woman walked into a Food 4 Less wearing surgical masks with swastika symbols attached to them. The store's management asked the couple to remove the masks, and after they refused, deputies were called, SDSO said.Deputies arrived and asked the couple to also remove the masks, to which the man reportedly replied, "I'm not here promoting some Nazi propaganda. I'm here peacefully protesting against the Governor's insane lockdown."The man also told deputies he was upset and frustrated with the state lockdown.After deputies told the man the store has the right to refuse business and asked them again to remove their masks, they did."This incident should serve as a reminder for anyone contemplating wearing or displaying items closely associated with hate and human suffering that our society does not tolerate this behavior," an SDSO spokesperson said in a release. "Santee is a city of families and the community is rightfully disgusted at this couple's despicable behavior. Seattle police have moved in to break up the Capitol Hill Occupied Protest (CHOP) after Mayor Jenny Durkan issued an executive order early Wednesday morning declaring the gathering illegal.According to the Seattle Times and KOMO-TV, about a dozen protesters were arrested Wednesday morning as police ordered those present to leave the area.Demonstrators have occupied the Capitol Hill neighborhood of Seattle for about three weeks. The protesters moved in earlier this month after police abandoned the department's East Precinct — which is located in the neighborhood — over fears of riots.While the occupation was largely peaceful for several weeks, the area has seen four shootings since June 20, some of them deadly.The protests began in the wake of the death of George Floyd, and were part of a nationwide protest movement against systemic racism and police brutality.Last month, CHOP leadership released a list of demands calling for the abolishment of the Seattle Police Department, a retrial for all people of color serving prison sentences for violent crime and the de-gentrification of the city, among other demands. 1138
