BEIJING, Sept. 4 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice Premier Li Keqiang has pledged China would work with the international community to promote the sustainable growth of the oceans.Li made the remarks Friday when meeting with representatives to the 33rd Pacem in Maribus (Latin for Peace in the Oceans) Conference, which was held in Beijing Friday and Saturday.Li said China would attach great importance to conservation on the marine ecosystems in the process of exploiting marine resources, and actively develop the green marine economy.China would also improve the oceans' capability of preventing and reducing disasters, and comprehensively take part in international marine affairs, he noted.Patricia O'Brien, Under-Secretary-General for Legal Affairs and United Nations Legal Counsel, Awni Behnam, president of International Ocean Institute, Wendy Watson-Wright, Executive Secretary of the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission, and other marine scientists attended Friday's meeting with Vice Premier Li.They said that the international community should work together to cope with climate change and promote a sustainable development.Entitled "Oceans, Climate Change and Sustainable Development: Challenges to Oceans and Coastal Cities," the PIM conference has drawn 266 representatives from 30 countries and 12 international organizations.

ATHENS, Oct. 2 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao arrived here Saturday, kicking off his three-day official visit to Greece.The Greece visit, the first stop of Wen's four-nation Europe tour, is the first by a Chinese premier in 24 years.During his stay, Premier Wen is due to meet Greek President Karolos Papoulias and Parliament Speaker Philippos Petsalnikos and hold talks with Greek Prime Minister George Papandreou before witnessing the signing of a series of deals. Wen will also deliver a speech in the Greek parliament on China-Greece and China-EU relations."Coping with the financial crisis will be an important topic for talks between Wen and Greek leaders. We have a positive attitude about the measures taken by the European Union and the International Monetary Fund," Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Fu Ying said earlier on Wen's Greece visit. Greece's sovereign debt crisis triggered fears of a domino effect across the eurozone earlier this year."We have noticed that the Greek government has adopted measures which have been effective. SHANGHAI, Oct. 10 (Xinhua) -- The China Pavilion at the Shanghai World Expo welcomed the 8 millionth visitor Saturday as a senior pavilion official announced its exhibition would run for another six months, beginning Dec.1."The China Pavilion's exhibitions will be extended for half a year beginning Dec.1 to meet people's needs", said Qian Zhiguang, deputy director of the China Pavilion on Saturday.The China Pavilion, named "The Crown of the East", has become increasingly popular since the World Expo open on May 1, with an average of 50,000 visitors daily.However, space restrictions have resulted in many visitors being turned away during the Expo, which closes at the end of October.Further, the China Pavilion is negotiating with local museums which are displaying historical items, to continue showing these national treasures, including bronze chariots and horses from the Qin Emperor, ancient porcelain, and invaluable Chinese paintings from 800 years ago.The China Pavilion is one of the permanent structures that will remain after the World Expo.

BEIJING, Sep. 2 (Xinhua) -- China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) said Thursday it would urge industrial enterprises to produce high-quality products as part of the effort to enhance the image of "made in China."The Ministry would also draw up a blacklist displaying the names of those firms breaching quality-related regulations, said Li Yizhong, Minister of the MIIT.The MIIT would reward those companies that have good records for producing quality products with increased policy and funding support, and punish those with poor quality-control records, said Li at a forum held in Beijing which focused on how to improve the quality and reputation of Chinese industrial products.The MIIT would also move forward on a campaign to allow enterprises to make promises on producing quality products, and work together with quality supervision authorities to incorporate the quality-based credit system of enterprises into the whole social credit system, Li said.During the forum, 156 Chinese firms signed a written proposal "promising to make quality products for the world," and called upon their peers in China to raise the quality of industrial products.
