SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Some local Uber customers got a major case of sticker shock when they see just how much they were being charged for their rides.On Wednesday afternoon, Kelley Rowe and two others were trying to get from the airport to the convention center to get her Comic-Con badges. Rowe, who flew in from Wisconsin, clicked and approved an Uber ride for .08. Not long after, she got an alarming message. "I got a text from my credit card company asking if it was fraud. Uber tried to charge ,308 to my credit car," said Rowe.The pending charge on her credit card was 100 times the actual cost. "It was huge sticker shock. I'm sure I swore immediately," said Rowe.Her bank put a hold on the charge and the ride never happened. Her credit card was now suspended during a week she needed to use it. "I'm very lucky I had credit card attached and not a debit card," said Rowe. Others may not have been so lucky. Some customers tweeted the ride drained their accounts. According to the Washington Post, an unknown amount of riders in San Diego and Washington D.C. experienced what Uber calls a glitch from a 'known' issue.Uber called it a system error in a message sent to Rowe. The company saying the overcharges will be reversed, but Rowe says needs to be more forthcoming and apologize. "They should be explicit about what the problem was, the scope and what they're doing to prevent it in the future. An apology would demonstrate some form of accountability and remorse," said Rowe. 10news reached out to Uber to find out if the problem has been corrected for good, but have not gotten a response. UPS says they'll deliver 750 million. The U.S. Postal Service estimates 850 million packages and 15 billion pieces of mail altogether, and Amazon says in 2016 they sent more than a billion items world wide through Prime.But this year, more companies have ways for you to protect your deliveries.Ring doorbells are becoming popular. They have motion-sensing cameras that connect to your smartphone, alerting users to see anyone that comes to the door. Their Facebook page is full of videos where owners scared off would-be thieves with an alarm or by shouting through a connected microphone.The company is also encouraging people to download their app. Even if you don't have a Ring Doorbell, the app will send you alerts any time suspicious activity is reported in your neighborhood.Also new this holiday season is the Amazon Key, an option introduced this fall. For about 0, you can buy a starter kit that includes a camera and a special door lock. Delivery drivers would be able to put packages inside your home.Amazon also has lockers all around San Diego that packages can be sent to. You get a code to open them to pick up your package.Meanwhile, the US Postal Service says people who are worried about theft can ship packages using the "Hold for Pickup" option. Packages are kept at the post office to be picked up. You can also require a signature for delivery, or re-route a package to a different address while it's being delivered. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Several men tried to scale the border fence at Border Field State Park Thursday evening.Video shows the men sitting on top of the wall attempting to get over. Border Patrol responded and agents were able to break up the crowd on the Mexico side of the border. Following the incident, the agency said it is willing to add agents in the area as needed. According to Border Patrol officials, about 167 arrests are made per day at the San Diego sector of the border. VIDEO: Migrants climb over border fence at Border Field State ParkEarlier in the week, dozens of migrants were caught on video climbing over the same section of the border fence. During that incident, several people successfully made it over the fence and onto the beach on the U.S. side of the border before being apprehended by agents. A total of 24 people, 18 men and six women, were taken into custody. According to Border Patrol, 23 of the people who crossed the border illegally were from Honduras while the 24th person was from Guatemala. 1036

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Singer Alicia Keys and her husband, rapper and music producer Swizz Beatz, are behind the purchase of a a -million mansion on the cliffs of La Jolla, according to the Wall Street Journal.The paper, citing sources familiar with the deal, say Keys and Beatz, whose real name is Kasseem Dean, bought the 10,600-square-foot home that is said to have inspired Tony Stark's Malibu home in the "Iron Man" film franchise. The conference held at Qualcomm brings in hundreds of engineers, researchers, scientists and every woman in between. Behind it all, there's CEO of Athena Holly Smithson, video game coder Jillian Moore, and senior program manager at Intuit KImbra Brookstein. The summit creates a space where women can share stories and learn new skills to skyrocket their careers in STEM.
