The Trump administration is taking steps to give telehealth a broader role under Medicare, with an executive order that serves as a call for Congress to make doctor visits via personal technology a permanent fixture of the program. The order President Donald Trump signed Monday applies to one segment of Medicare recipients — people living in rural communities. But administration officials say it’s intended as a signal to Congress that Trump is ready to sign more significant legislation that would permanently open up telehealth as an option for all people with Medicare. Trump says his administration is “taking action to make sure telehealth is here to stay.”"When the invisible enemy struck our shores, we took immediate action to eliminate regulatory barriers to telehealth, making it easier for patients to consult with doctors from safety and convenience and really, they have great safety and great convenience right from their homes," Trump said. While the CDC said in June it was working on expanding access to telehealth, it did list some drawbacks to the service:Situations in which in-person visits are more appropriate due to urgency, underlying health conditions, or inability to perform an adequate physical examThe need to address sensitive topics, especially if there is patient discomfort or concern for privacyLimited access to technological devices (e.g., smartphone, tablet, computer) needed for a telehealth visit or connectivity issuesLevel of comfort with technology for HCP and patientsCultural acceptance of conducting virtual visits in lieu of in-person visits by HCP and patientsInterstate licensure challenges and other regulatory issues that may vary by state 1701
The search for missing actress Naya Rivera at a California lake has moved from a rescue effort to a recovery effort, the Ventura County Sheriff's Office said Thursday. In a press release, the VCSO said that investigators believe that Rivera "drowned in what appears to be a tragic accident."The VCSO added that recovery efforts had been hampered because divers are experiencing low visibility in waters.Rivera was last seen on Wednesday at Lake Piru, which is located about 60 miles northwest of Los Angeles. According to Cpt. Eric Buschow of the VCSO, deputies were called to the lake when Rivera's 4-year-old son was found floating adrift in the boat. The child reportedly told deputies that he had been swimming with his mother, but she never returned to the boat.Rivera is best known for portraying Santana on Glee, which ran on Fox between 2009 and 2015. 865

The ratings for Anderson Cooper's exclusive interview with Stormy Daniels won't be available until Monday afternoon. But the outpouring of reactions suggest that her account of an alleged affair with Donald Trump in 2006 captivated viewers across the country.Several hours after the interview was broadcast, Daniels' name was still the No. 1 trending topic in the U.S. on Twitter. The adult film star was also a trending topic on Facebook. The sexual encounter allegedly happened a decade before Trump was elected president. But the apparent cover-up is much more recent."For us, it wasn't so much 'there was an affair.' That's not as much the headline. For us, it's everything that has happened since and how we've gotten to this point," Cooper said in an interview for CBSNews.com about his sit-down with Daniels."I think there's more to come on this story. I'm not saying necessarily on Stormy Daniels' aspect of the story, but on the methods that were used to keep her silent," Cooper told CBSNews.com. "If Stormy Daniels' story is true that a thug came up to her in a parking lot in Las Vegas in 2011 -- this is long before Donald Trump was a presidential candidate -- I mean, if somebody is using intimidation tactics, physical intimidation tactics, it's probably not the first time they've done it. So that's a potential story I would imagine people would look at: Has this kind of thing happened before? And I don't know the answer to that."The porn star's media-savvy attorney, Michael Avenatti, bluntly told Cooper, "This is about the cover-up."Sunday's "60 Minutes" broadcast marked the first time that Daniels described an alleged threat made in 2011, a few weeks after she agreed to tell a tabloid magazine about the alleged affair. (The magazine story wound up being nixed.)On the East Coast, the "60 Minutes" broadcast was delayed by an NCAA basketball game. But once the broadcast began, there was a mixture of shock, revulsion, and snark on social media -- as well as sex jokes. Some critics reacted by saying "there was no news" in the interview. But the interview itself was news -- representing Daniels' first time speaking on camera about the alleged affair, the hush money, and more. And there were new details about the alleged threat, plus her motivations for breaking her silence.Avenatti tweeted afterward: "Any claim that 'There was nothing new other than the details of the threat' is not only false but is also similar to asking 'Other than the short interruption Mrs. Lincoln, what did you think of the play?'"Daniels told Cooper that Avenatti advised her not to share any texts, photos, or other evidence of the affair for now.It "would be foolish" to share the evidence now, Avenatti tweeted. He added: "Tonight is not the end -- it's the beginning."The two-part "60 Minutes" story focused on the alleged cover-up and the possible campaign finance law violations."The Stormy Daniels story is certainly about sex but it's also -- and more importantly -- about financial and emotional intimidation," Margaret Sullivan wrote in a column for Monday's Washington Post."The ultimate verdict" on Cooper's interview "will be whether viewers accept his claim that this is serious news," Politico's Michael Calderone wrote. On cable news and on Twitter, there was lots of chatter about whether Trump would join the conversation by tweeting or saying something about the scandal.CNN's Kaitlan Collins reported on Sunday that Trump is irked by what he sees as wall-to-wall coverage of Daniels' claims.New York Times correspondent Maggie Haberman, who doubles as a CNN analyst, commented on Twitter that a standout part of the interview was Daniels' assertion that she was not attracted to Trump. Daniels referred to the relationship as a "business deal."Haberman said Trump "was incredibly proud of the 'Best Sex I Ever Had' NY Post front page" from decades ago. So Daniels' dismissive attitude "won't sit well." 3942
The United States and Mexico have reached an agreement to change parts of NAFTA, the trade deal that President Donald Trump has derided for years as unfair.Trump announced the agreement from the Oval Office Monday, with Mexican President Enrique Pe?a Nieto dialed in on a conference call. But the deal left open the question of whether Canada, the third country in NAFTA, would agree to the changes -- and Trump himself said he wanted to throw out the name NAFTA altogether."They used to call it NAFTA," Trump said. "We're going to call it the United States-Mexico trade agreement. We're going to get rid of NAFTA because it has a bad connotation."Negotiators for both countries agreed to a new rule that dictates where auto parts are made.Under the current law, about 62 percent of the parts in any car sold in North America must be produced in the region or automakers have to pay import taxes. The new preliminary agreement would require that 75 percent of auto parts be made in the United States and Mexico, according to the U.S. Trade Representative's office.Much of the business world has been worried about Trump's trade policies, and the stock market reacted positively to the news. The Dow rose more than 250 points and the S&P 500 and Nasdaq hit new highs on Monday. The agreement between the two countries could restart negotiations on NAFTA with all three parties -- the United States, Mexico and Canada.Despite Trump's signal that the deal could lead to a bilateral trade agreement between the United States and Mexico, Pe?a Nieto, through a translator, expressed his "desire that now Canada will also be able to be incorporated in this."Mexico and Canada have stood firm on the importance of maintaining the trilateral format of the NAFTA free trade deal, even as Trump has signaled a desire for individual deals with each country."Canada is encouraged by the continued optimism shown by our negotiating partners," said a spokesperson for Canadian Minister of Foreign Affairs Chrystia Freeland."Progress between Mexico and the United States is a necessary requirement for any renewed NAFTA agreement," he said.Negotiations on rewriting the three-country NAFTA agreement began about a year ago.The 24-year-old trade agreement generally prevents the three parties from imposing tariffs on imports from one another. But Trump has called the agreement "the worst deal maybe ever signed" and moved ahead with tariffs earlier this year.In May, the United States imposed steep tariffs on steel and aluminum from much of the world, including Mexico. In response, Mexico slapped tariffs on billion of U.S. goods, including steel, pork, apples, potatoes, bourbon and different types of cheese. Canada imposed tariffs on .5 billion of U.S. goods, including steel, toffee, maple syrup, coffee beans and strawberry jam. 2841
