SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A Normal Heights dog owner is warning about a hidden danger at dog parks.Bosco, a 2-year-old bullypit, loves his treats and just about anything else his mouth can reach."He's a vacuum. He's eaten some weird stuff," said Mark Groveman. On Friday morning, the list of stuff got longer sometime during a 40-minute period. During that time, Groveman walked Bosco to the off-leash area at Ward Canyon Park and let him play. Eventually they walked home. Groveman put him in the house, left for work and returned home five hours later."He was laying on the bed, scared and shivering. He had wet the bed a couple times. He was arching his back in a weird way, swaying side to side. I thought he was having a stroke," said Groveman.Groveman decided to rush Bosco to the emergency vet."In the car, he was bobbing his head forward. He kept nodding off. Honestly I thought he was going to die. A lot of panic and some praying as well," said Groveman. At the vet, Bosco got a quick diagnosis."They said they are seeing it every day," said Groveman. Bosco likely ingested marijuana, which tests later confirmed. Experts say in some cases, eating marijuana for dogs can lead to seizures and in rare cases, death. Edibles and tinctures - with higher THC concentrations - are most concerning. According to the ASPCA, since the legalization of marijuana in California, dog toxicity cases have jumped 130%.In the case of Bosco, a slow heartbeat was initially a concern, but he was fortunately was back to his normal self 24 hours later."He has to run around and play, but I'm going to be a bit more aware," said Groveman. 1629

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – A Lemon Grove man was charged Wednesday with aiming a laser pointer at a San Diego Police helicopter as a demonstration moved through Hillcrest last weekend.Rudy Alvarez, 24, was charged with aiming a laser pointer at an aircraft hovering over the protest on June 6, according to the Department of Justice.A federal complaint alleges Alvarez shined a laser at the SDPD aircraft at about 8:30 p.m. in the area of the 500 block of University Ave. During that time, a large demonstration was moving through the area, investigators added.Alvarez was located multiple times over the next hour in the crowd, before police identified him on G St. just before 10 p.m. and arrested him without incident.Detectives say they found a high-powered gray metal laser pointer in his front left pant pocket."Aiming a laser pointer at or near an aircraft could cause distraction or blindness to a pilot and the consequences could be devastating," said U.S. Attorney Robert Brewer. "We support the Constitutional rights of free speech and assembly, but it is our duty to protect the public and law enforcement from danger."Alvarez's bond was set at ,000 and his next hearing was set for June 23. 1205

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A new movie set in San Diego and south of the border is hoping to bridge the cultural gap between the two countries, all using comedy. The movie highlights the bi-cultural relationship between San Diego and Mexico. Ruta Madre first premiered in 2017 and has since made its way around the film festival circuit winning various awards. Now, the movie is getting some major attention and even making its way to theatres around San Diego. Although Ruta Madre has had a successful turn around the film festival circuit, the theatrical release comes at a critical time in the political relationship between the U.S. and Mexico. It also confronts the issue many Latinos in America face: self- and social-identity."It reflects the feeling of many Latinos, especially Mexicans, who have emigrated or were born here, but who have not they feel neither from here nor from there,” director and screenwriter Agustín Casta?eda said in a 2016 interview. The film, called Ruta Madre, follows Daniel, a young American singer who leaves his home in Chula Vista to embark on a spiritual road trip after his first love Daisy breaks his heart. The film follows Daniel and his uncle as they travel through the Baja peninsula where he meets a colorful cast of characters that combine comedy and tenderness to help the teen discover his Mexican heritage.Across a stunning backdrop of Mexico's vibrant landscape and rich culture, the film paints a proud image of people from both sides of the border. "Ruta Madre conveys a strong message of love, family and is a celebration of the culture that will delight the public of each nationality, regardless of the border side they call home," said Casta?edaWatch 10News tomorrow at 6 a.m. to find out about other ties Ruta Madre has to San Diego. 1795

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A local non-profit is taking a page from online dating to help San Diegans match with a new career. It's more sophisticated than swiping left or right, and it can help anyone looking for a job or career change. It's called My Next Move. The San Diego Workforce Partnership released it after a yearlong effort. The highlight is a 60-question questionnaire that gauges a job seeker's interests. For each task, a job seeker will choose an option from "strongly disagree" to "strongly agree." Examples include investigating the start of a fire, repairing and replacing locks, or examining blood under a microscope. At the end, the system will provide a list of sectors that the best fit the job seeker, including local retraining programs, salary information, top hiring employers, and open jobs. "Think of it like Match.com for careers," said Sarah Burns, the partnership's director of research application. "Once you get a career match, it says okay, well if you want to take the next step in this relationship, then here's what you do."Burns said the system will give each test-taker a percentage matching their interests to the potential career. She said that could expose people to fields they did not know about.Additionally, the site has a list of 72 priority jobs in San Diego County, which the partnership says pay 90% of its workers at least per hour, and should grow by at least 6.5% annually. 1430
