BEIJING, Aug. 21 (Xinhua) -- China values its friendly ties with Cuba and is willing to work with Cuba to push bilateral relationship to a new height, Chinese Vice Premier Li Keqiang said on Thursday.   Li made the remarks when meeting with Jose Ramon Fernandez Alvarez, vice president of the Cuban Council of Ministers, here on Thursday.     Li said Sino-Cuban relations were at a new stage of development, as the two countries had maintained frequent high-level contact and increased economic cooperation and consultation in international affairs. BEIJING, April 29 (Xinhua) -- Hu Jintao, general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, on Tuesday urged Taiwan to work together with the mainland based on four principles: "Building mutual trust, laying aside disputes, seeking consensus and shelving differences, and creating a win-win situation."    He called for substantial efforts for the welfare of Chinese compatriots on both sides, to seek peace across the Taiwan Strait and create a new situation for the peaceful development of cross-strait relations.     Hu made these remarks in a meeting with Lien Chan, honorary chairman of the Kuomintang Party (KMT), his wife and his delegation, at the Diaoyutai State Guesthouse in central Beijing. BEIJING, April 24 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao met here on Thursday with ex-French Prime Minister Jean-Pierre Raffarin, and urged the French government to work with China to put bilateral relations on a healthy and stable track.     Wen said France was the first Western power to forge diplomatic relations with China, and also the first European Union (EU) member state to set up a comprehensive strategic partnership with China.     China valued its friendship with France, which was fostered by leaders of several generations from both nations and by the two peoples, Wen said. UNITED NATIONS, Sept. 24 (Xinhua) -- China will stick to the path of peaceful development and continue to pursue the policies of reform and opening-up and an independent foreign policy of peace, Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao said here Wednesday.     "The whole world wants to know in what direction China is heading" after the Beijing Olympic Games, Wen said in a speech delivered at the annual high-level debate of the United Nations General Assembly.     "Let me tell you in unequivocal terms that China will remain committed to the path of peaceful development, unswervingly pursue reform and opening-up, and continue to adhere to an independent foreign policy of peace," he said.     "This is in the fundamental interests of the Chinese people and the people of all other countries. It is also in keeping with the trend of the world."
