The Recording Academy says it has fired Deborah Dugan, its former president who questioned the integrity of the Grammy Awards nominations process and complained of sexual harassment and a toxic culture. The academy said Monday the decision was reached after “two exhaustive, costly independent investigations.” Dugan had been on administrative leave since mid-January, when she was ousted after multiple complaints of mistreatment from people in the organization. Dugan says her firing represents a continuation of the same patterns from the academy, and she'll keep fighting the organization from the outside. Dugan’s ouster played out days before the academy's Grammy Awards. 689

The staff at Deadspin, a sports news blog that also covers culture, media and politics, revolted on Tuesday after management told the site's employees to steer clear of stories that do not have a connection to sports.Instead of heeding management's mandate, staffers filled Deadspin's homepage on Tuesday morning with non-sports stories that had been popular in the past, seemingly a nod to their argument that stories that are not strictly about sports have been favorites of Deadspin's regular readers. Perhaps most telling among the selections was "The Adults In The Room," an 592

The Supreme Court said Tuesday that a provision of an Indiana law which said the state may prohibit abortions motivated solely by race, sex or disability should remain blocked. The court, however, did say it would allow part of the law that requires clinics to bury or cremate fetal remains to take effect. The fact that the court decided not to take up the more controversial provision of the Indiana law suggests that there is not a current appetite on the court to move aggressively to question the court's core abortion precedents of Roe v. Wade and Casey v. Planned Parenthood. Still, supporters of abortion rights will be disappointed and worried that the justices allowed the fetal tissue provision to go into effect. The law was 746

The Republican leaders of the House Judiciary and Oversight committees announced Friday they have wrapped up their review of the FBI's handling of the Hillary Clinton and Russia investigations, and raised concerns about the "thoroughness and impartiality" of the investigations. In a letter to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, acting Attorney General Matt Whitaker and Department of Justice Inspector General Michael Horowitz, House Oversight Committee Chairman Trey Gowdy and House Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte reiterate prior criticisms of the investigation. Among those critiques are former FBI Director James Comey's handling of the decision not to prosecute Clinton, as well as charges of political bias by now-former FBI agent Peter Strzok and former FBI lawyer Lisa Page. The lawmakers repeat their call for a special counsel to be appointed to investigate decisions made during both investigations and also what they call the "disparate way these two investigations were seemingly conducted."Notably, Goodlatte and Gowdy argue that special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation must be "trusted by Americans," writing "there has been no effort to discredit the work of the Special Counsel. Quite the opposite, whatever product is produced by the Special Counsel must be trusted by Americans and that requires asking tough but fair questions about investigative techniques both employed and not employed." 1444
