CALEXICO, Calif. (KGTV) -- The City of Calexico is preparing for President Trump’s visit and several planned protests at the border Friday. Some people in the city told 10News they’re happy the President is paying attention to their community while others say they don’t support him and wish he’d stay away. A plaque now hangs from a new section of the border fence proclaiming it to be the first section of Trump’s border wall. RELATED: Possible border shutdown causes widespread concernThe new section stretches 2.2 miles, stands 30 feet high and has spaces between each metal post and wire along the front and top.Border Patrol requested the section of the fence when Barack Obama was in office, but they never broke ground on the project. In town, deputies began preparing for the big event Friday. At least one protest is planned for the President’s arrival. CHICAGO, Ill. – The national conversation continues to be dominated by the state of race relations in the United States. Five decades after the civil rights movement, there is still division.Naomi Davis and Sherrilynn Bevel both lived through that groundbreaking era and have insightful perspectives on how the country should move forward with a focus on racial equality.“I grew up in St. Albans Queens, where mom is the president of everything and all the lawns were cut and all the kids were college-bound and it was Martin, it was Malcolm and it was all great things were possible,” said Davis, the CEO of Blacks in Green on Chicago’s South Side.Davis says her organization has set out to fulfill a vision for self-sustaining Black communities.“We have a mission to create walk to work, walk to shop, walk to learn, walk to play villages, where African-American families own the property, own the businesses,” said Davis.Bevel is a nonviolence trainer, as well as the daughter of iconic civil rights pioneers and freedom riders Diane Nash and James Bevel. Both fought for desegregation and civil rights alongside Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.“My father always talked about creating dramas that allow people to see themselves and have to decide who they were in the bigger picture,” said Bevel. Her father was with Dr. King in Memphis and witnessed his assassination in April 1968.“After I was born even, the civil rights workers were finding there will be small communities where Black men's bodies were found in cotton fields and that kind of thing and my mother shared that she had spent like days trying to convince somebody from one of the wire services to come down and report on a body that they had found,” said Bevel. “And it just wasn't news. It wasn’t news.”Both women point to education and more listening as the core path to resolution and coexistence.“We haven't been serious for a long time about educating our citizens,” Bevel said. “And I don't just mean Black and brown people in the inner cities. We have these pockets of rural America where young poor and working-class whites do not understand where their interests run right in line with other working people of color.”Davis says the path forward is a reckoning where the disenfranchised finally get priority at the front of the line, either through reparations or systematic redirection of resources.“That's the math of it,” said Davis. “If you're going to solve for disparity,

CARLSBAD, Calif. (KGTV) - One person was found injured and possible packages of drugs were discovered in the water after a panga boat washed ashore in Carlsbad Friday morning. 183

CARLSBAD, Calif. (KGTV) - A new law, passed unanimously by the Carlsbad City Council, will allow any place with a license to serve food and alcohol to also host live entertainment.Previously, only places that served primarily food were allowed to have live music or shows."What we’re looking at is more of the solo artist, the pianist, more of the acoustic music that we’re seeing a trend in the rise all over," says City Village Manager Claudia Huerta. The city hadn't updated its live entertainment rules since 2017. Huerta says business owners had requested the change to keep pace with other similar coastal cities. Now, they can apply for a permit to have live entertainment, including music, DJs or other performers like hypnotists and comedians."The village is a special place," says Zac Markham, who owns Humble Olive Oils on State Street. "I really think this will raise bar of the village and make it a place to be for Carlsbad and all of our county."Not everyone is excited about the change. Some neighbors worry that more music will lead to more people and more problems, especially late at night."The whole purpose of that is to get more business, right? I understand, that’s a valid business reason," says Carlsbad Barrio resident Simon Angel. "But is it appropriate for the communities that are going to be impacted by it? We already have people walking through at night. Sometimes they stop and relieve themselves or they get sick in people's front yards."Huerta says the city is working to make sure that doesn't happen. Every application for an entertainment permit will be reviewed by the police. And the City Council will revisit the program after 6 months to make sure it hasn't created any problems. The new ordinance goes into effect in April. However, Huerta says the Village still has to adapt its master plan before the change can take effect. That may not happen until the fall. 1911

(KGTV) — A motorcyclist was killed on Friday after he lost control of his motorcycle and crashed into a building in Carlsbad.Carlsbad Police say the motorcyclist was traveling westbound on Faraday Ave. just after 3 p.m., when for unknown reasons he lost control and collided into a building.Officers arrived to find the motorcyclist unconscious. The rider, identified as a 29-year-old male from Encinitas, died at the scene.Police don't believe any other vehicles were involved and said it doesn't appear alcohol was a factor. It's unclear how fast the rider was traveling at the time of the crash. The area of Faraday Ave. and Orion Way was partially closed for the investigation but has since reopened. 728
