LOS ANGELES (KGTV) -- A 5.3 magnitude earthquake shook the Los Angeles area Thursday afternoon. According to the United States Geological Survey, the earthquake struck about 35 miles southwest of Channel Island Beach. At this time there are no reports of damage or injuries. A Federal Aviation Administration enforcement record says Ara Zaboyan was counseled in 2015 after he strayed into Los Angeles International Airport space after being denied permission to cross because of reduced visibility. The FAA record says Zobayan admitted and took responsibility for the error. LOS ANGELES (AP) — Authorities identified five additional victims Tuesday as divers searched for the last missing passenger who died in a fatal boat fire off the coast of California.As the families mourned, officials pursued a criminal investigation into the blaze that killed 34 people on Labor Day.Santa Barbara County Sheriff Bill Brown said the victims, 21 women and 13 men from 16 to 62 years old, appear to have died from smoke inhalation before they were burned. She had just returned from spending several years sailing across the Pacific with her husband.Fiedler, a Michigan native, was a hairdresser and photographer who thought of herself as "part fish" because of her ocean addiction.The other three victims identified Tuesday were on the boat with coworkers and loved ones.Sison's husband, Michael Quitasol, and her three stepdaughters also perished in the fire. LOS ANGELES (CNS) - Los Angeles City Councilman Mitch O'Farrell and the city's Bureau of Sanitation will remind all restaurant managers that starting Tuesday they will be required to withhold plastic straws unless a customer requests them. ``The new city law picks up where the state law stops,'' O'Farrell said in April. ``As a coastal city and state, we owe it to our environment to do everything in our power to ensure we reduce single-use plastic waste.'' The first phase of O'Farrell's ``Straws on Request'' initiative took effect this year on Earth Day, which applied to businesses with more than 26 employees. The new law takes aim at reducing single-use plastic waste from littering beaches and waterways, O'Farrell said, and it applies to restaurants of all sizes. O'Farrell plans to speak this morning at a news conference with various city officials and local restaurant owners. Both the state and county recently adopted a single-use plastic straw policy, but O'Farrell said Los Angeles' law is more restrictive. In drive-thru restaurants, the customer will be notified to ask for a straw if one is needed. O'Farrell cited a report from the nonprofit Lonely Whale's campaign called Strawless Ocean, which stated Americans throw away 500 million plastic straws each day. LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Authorities say they have arrested a man in connection with the shooting of two Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies as they sat in their squad car.District Attorney Jackie Lacy on Wednesday says attempted murder charges have been filed against 36-year-old Deonte Lee Murray. He was arrested two weeks ago in connection with a separate carjacking.The deputies suffered critical wounds in the Sept. 12 shooting which was recorded by surveillance video.They have since been released from the hospital and are recovering at home. 555
