SOLANA BEACH, Calif. (KGTV) - An injured sea lion spotted on a North San Diego County beach prompted lifeguards to place shark warning signs along a stretch of coastline Thursday. The incident was reported about 9:30 a.m. at 2525 South Coast Highway near Tower 11 at Cardiff State Beach, according to California State Parks officials. A jogger reported the sea lion with a missing tail and gash on its back, washed up on the beach.SeaWorld San Diego experts responded to the area but told 10News the sea lion later died due to the severity of its injuries. They confirmed the female sea lion was bitten by a shark.Lifeguards posted aggressive shark advisories for beachgoers from Cardiff Reef in the north to Seaside State Beach in the south, officials said. There was no immediate word on the type of shark involved. The incident Thursday marks the sixth shark sighting over the last several weeks in the waters off San Diego. Shark sightings several days in a row prompted shark advisories in Del Mar in July. A shark sighting in Coronado also forced lifeguards to post signs warning beachgoers about the presence of sharks. A shark advisory means that a shark has been spotted in the water and swimmers should enter at their own risk. PETERSBURG, Florida — Back in 2016, a dog owner received a note saying, "Shut your dog up or we will."Days later, Annabelle, a three-year-old brindle pitbull terrier mix, nearly died from kidney failure.The owner says the kidney failure was caused by wet dog food laced with Acetaminophen, known best as Tylenol, which is extremely toxic to dogs. Rob McCahan says he believes the contaminated food was tossed into his yard from the alley behind his home on 44th Avenue North in St. Pete.The dog found and ate the contaminated food before the owner realized there was a bag there at all.It happened again in March 2018, and this time, Annabelle died."She was the most lovable dog in the world," says McCahan, whose cell phone is filled with photos of his beloved dog, who he rescued from a local shelter.She died after several days in the animal hospital."These people are sick. I'm just kind of confused right now. Trying to figure out who did it," adds McCahan.The second poisoning coincided with a second note left on his door that read in part: "Shut him up. Your neighbors are tired of it."McCahan says Annabelle didn't bark too much and certainly didn't bark any more than his neighbors' dogs.Just a few houses down from McCahan's, on the 700 block of 44th Avenue NE in the North East Park community of St. Pete, another dog apparently died in the exact same manner.A brown bag with poisoned food was thrown into another yard, killing an otherwise perfectly-healthy 8-year-old golden retriever, according to the pet's owner.This pet owner shared her devastating experience on social media online with her neighbors, saying their dog died this past Monday, and wanted to warn others that someone was doing this."I'm afraid for animals," she writes, adding, "My family was devastated and are still recovering. Please be aware. We're upgrading security."St. Pete Police were out in the neighborhood again Friday trying to confirm this second report of a dog's death, but have not yet been able to.Another neighbor on the same 700 block of 44th Avenue NE tells ABC Action News that his cat was found hanged about 8 months ago.  A woman who lives on nearby 43rd Avenue NE tells St. Pete Police that she has received similarly-threatening letters recently, but her pets are doing okay. Smash Mouth says they've received hate mail from fans after taking part in a concert during an event that's since been linked to the spread of more than 100 cases of COVID-19.The band performed an Aug. 9 concert at the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally in South Dakota in front of a closely-grouped crowd. Many of those in attendance were not wearing masks. During the performance, lead singer Steve Harwell was heard saying, "f*** that Covid s***."In the weeks since the event, at least 103 cases of COVID-19 have been linked directly to the Sturgis rally. And while it's unclear how many of those cases (if any) are linked directly to the Smash Mouth concert, the band has faced criticism since its performance.Earlier this week, the band posted a video of "recent fan mail" that they've received. Some relatives of Mollie Tibbetts are pushing back against politicians who are blaming the country's immigration system for the Iowa college student's death.A body believed to be Tibbetts' was found in Iowa on Tuesday, a month after she went missing during an evening jog. The man arrested in her death is an undocumented immigrant from Mexico.President Donald Trump and other Republican politicians have highlighted the case to argue for stricter enforcement of immigration laws.But some of Tibbetts' family members, including her aunt, Billie Jo Calderwood, say they don't want her death to be used for political leverage."I don't want Mollie's memory to get lost amongst politics," Calderwood told CNN, emphasizing that she's speaking only for herself.She said her family received an outpouring of love from people of all races, religions and ethnicities during the search for her niece."It's not about race, it's about people joining together to do good," said Calderwood, who posted a similar message on Facebook.One of Tibbetts' second cousins, Samantha Lucas, also told CNN she wants Tibbetts' death removed from political discussion.Lucas said she didn't know her second cousin well, and isn't speaking for the whole family. But she says knows enough about Tibbetts to believe "she would not want this to be used as fuel against undocumented immigrants."CNN contacted Lucas after she pushed back against people on social media who mentioned Tibbetts as they railed against illegal immigration.Few of Tibbetts' relatives have spoken publicly on the issue.
