JEFFERSON COUNTY, Colo. – Several Jefferson County, Colorado, schools, including Columbine High School, were placed on lockout Tuesday afternoon because of what the sheriff’s office said “appears to be a credible threat.” The FBI and other authorities are looking for an 18-year-old woman who is believed to be connected to the lockouts and who is considered armed and dangerous, according to the FBI.A Jeffco Public Schools spokesperson said several schools in the Columbine and mountain areas of the district were on lockout at 1 p.m. but said “everyone is safe.” The spokesperson, Diana Wilson, said business was operating as usual within the schools but no one was allowed inside or outside.“It is our understanding they are searching for a suspicious person,” Wilson said.The FBI alerted Jefferson County authorities to the threat around 11 a.m., the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office said.The FBI and Jefferson County Sheriff's Office are looking for 18-year-old Sol Pais in connection to the threats. The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office said Pais traveled to Colorado Monday night and made threats. They said she is described as 5-foot-5 inches tall, with brown hair. She was last seen wearing a black t-shirt, camouflage pants and black boots and was last seen in the Jefferson County foothills.Authorities say she should be considered armed and extremely dangerous. If you listen closely, you can hear the buzz happening at Doull Elementary School in Denver, Colorado. At this school, where 93 percent of the students qualify for free lunch, staff is helping out by getting more hands-on. Every Wednesday, after the final bell rings, the school’s auditorium transforms into a barbershop.“This really does help out some of our families,” Doull Assistant Principal Rob Suglia said about the school’s new barber club. “We found that attendance is better, because when kids feel good, they want to come to school.” Before getting his doctorate in education, Suglia worked as a professional barber. Now, he’s sharing his skills to his students.“Third, 4th and 5th graders get to get exposed to a trade,” Suglia said about the benefits of the barber club. It's a growing trade that can be financially rewarding. According to The United States Department, the median hourly wage for barbers was about .50 in 2018. When you add in tips, many say barbers can make a lot more, like professional barber Buschey, who works at Floyd’s barbershop in downtown Denver. “No matter where I go around the world, all I need is clippers and a comb and I should be able to get an income,” he says. Though Bushey has made a career out of cutting hair, he believes barbering provides much more than just a paycheck.“It gives me a sense of accomplishment,” he says. “I’ve had people sit in my chair that maybe just lost a loved one. "If you're going to have to go to the trouble to actually figure out what you owe, you might as well file your return, get it over with," said Nathan Rigney, a research analyst. "And you may discover in fact you get a refund." He added most Americans are seeing a smaller tax return, or owe the government for the first time, but they received more take-home pay during the year. To avoid having to pay next year, Rigney suggested looking at your withholding. It's the amount of money your employer keeps from your paycheck to pay the government on your behalf. You can fill out a W4 to change your withholding. Depending on your changes, come this time next year, you may be getting a check instead of writing one. "[If you don't, the amount you owe] might even be a little bit worse just because of the way the withholding tables were implemented last year for only half of the year. This year, it will be for the full year," Rigney said.
