If you're in an industry hit hard by the pandemic, you may be considering making a career change.However, it can be hard to know where to begin and you may not feel like you're qualified.LinkedIn has a new tool called "career explorer" that could help you figure out the best career to transition into.You put in the job that you have or had most recently and it shows you in demand jobs that are a strong match for those same skills.“When it comes to retail positions, soft skills, there's a lot of soft skills that are acquired being in retail and we know from hiring managers that soft skills are highly in demand right now, especially in a COVID world,” said Blair Heitmann, a LinkedIn career expert. “Those are skills like communication, thought leadership, management and we know that those are just as important to those hard skills.”You want to make sure you're listing those skills. LinkedIn found people who have five or more skills on their profile are discovered by recruiters 27 times more.“You could have been on a team of servers that was a part of the restaurant that was the fastest growing restaurant in the area,” said Heitmann. “That demonstrates the quality of the service, so you want to make sure that you really word about the impact that you had on the role.”If you were a food server, the career experts at LinkedIn say you have three quarters of the skills you need to be a customer service specialist, which is one of the most in demand jobs. In areas north of town, like the hard-hit Kingwood neighborhood, tall piles of debris--furniture, cabinetry, bedding--only just recently starting to get hauled away. And there's no escaping the smell. The Red Cross continues to make daily deliveries to the hardest hit areas. Driving a Budget rental truck tattooed with a temporary Red Cross logo through the Kashmere Gardens neighborhood, volunteers hand off two cases of water to 26-year-old Joel Salazar.He takes it inside his empty apartment--a converted garage owned by his aunt-- where he's lost just about everything he owned. They didn't have insurance. But then again, they didn't expect it to get as bad as it did."The water [from the creek occasionally] gets high over here, but it's never high enough to go into a house. And everybody kept saying, it's not going to be that bad," Salazar said, adding, "I'll be fine."Now, he's relying on the kindness of others to get by--a mattress donated by friends, a t-shirt given to him by a local graphic printing company, and a place to sleep courtesy of his Uncle Hector, whose carpentry skills will come in handy soon. The smell has finally started to fade inside Salazar's place, and they can begin renovations.But there's something else that's made Harvey--and losing his apartment-- that much tougher for Salazar."When I came in here, I just started crying, like I was hurt. This is my house, the place I shared with my mom."Salazar shared the cozy one bedroom with his mother up until her death just over a year ago. She had Leukemia, and for a while it had appeared she'd beaten it, thanks to Salazar; he was the bone marrow donor."And then the cancer came back."She died soon after."I mean, I never really lived on my own until this past past year. It was difficult the first couple of months, and it still is."It was so hard in fact that Salazar had to put most of what reminded him of her--family photographs on the walls and tables--and hide them on the top shelf of his closet. "There was just a lot of memories there, and I just felt depressed every time I saw them."But heading home to take stock in what stayed dry, Salazar takes down the boxes of photos--some of his mother's most cherished possessions, now his, too. Harvey, he says, is his turning point. He's quick to stress that he'll always be thinking about her, but no longer will he feel the need to dwell on his mother's death."This flood is actually--it's kind of a good thing because, you know, I can rebuild and make the apartment my place and my home," he said, welling up with emotion. "It's going to give me a chance to move forward and be able to come home and relax, instead of always thinking about my mom."And you can bet that after Salazar decides which photos to display on his walls once more, the boxes with the others will go back up onto the tallest shelf he can find."They're safe with me." 2944

The social media platform reports that more than 1.5 million political ads were purchased during that time for a total of more than 0 million.President Donald Trump spent nearly million on Facebook ads during that span. The ads purchased were split between Trump's 2020 campaign and the Trump Make America Great Again Committee — a joint fundraising committee between Trump's campaign committee and the RNC.But even Trump was outspent by Texas Senate candidate Beto O'Rourke. The Democrat spent .3 million on Facebook between May and October. By comparison, O'Rourke's opponent Ted Cruz spent about 0,000 on Facebook during that same time period.It's no secret that O'Rourke has relied heavily on social media in his push to turn Texas blue. Over the summer, he got a bump from a viral video that showed him explaining why he supports NFL players kneeling for the national anthem. One version of the video has been viewed 46 million times.Despite O'Rourke's heavy spending, ABC News' FiveThirtyEight still gives Cruz an edge in the polls with a 7 in 9 chance that he is re-elected.Though she is not up for re-election this fall, California Sen. ExxonMobil, the oil and gas giant, spent the most on political Facebook ads among corporations in 2018, pouring nearly million into 1,700 ads. A search through Facebook's archives shows most of the company's most recent ads oppose Colorado Proposition 112 — a proposition that, if passed, would require oil and gas developments to be at least 2,500 feet from occupied buildings, parks, creeks, and other "vulnerable areas." Oil companies have argued the restrictions would make fracking and oil extraction in Colorado too difficult and expensive.Finally, despite calls for President Donald Trump's impeachment from some Democrats in the face of the Mueller investigation, Congressional leadership on the left has largely chosen not to campaign on the promise of impeachment.
