SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The San Diego Humane Society and District Attorney’s office are teaming up to encourage people to report suspected animal cruelty. According to the Humane Society, animal cruelty is one of the earliest and most dramatic indicators that someone may be developing a pattern of seeking power and control by abusing others. The Humane Society says when animals in the home are abused or neglected, it is a warning sign that others in the home may be in danger. “Often times when animals are being abused, people are being abused too,” said Dr. Gary Weitzman, President and CEO of San Diego Humane Society. “That’s why it’s so important to report animal cruelty and neglect when you see it.”Anyone who wants to report animal cruelty is asked to call the Humane Society at 619-299-7012. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — The possibility of Topgolf coming to San Diego took another step forward Tuesday.During a Port of San Diego board meeting, staff were authorized to begin to negotiate and enter into an exclusive negotiating agreement with Topgolf, according to the Port. Once the Port enters into the agreement, staff can begin to refine their proposal for the land, allow Topgolf to conduct its own due diligence, and negotiate terms until the agreement expires on Dec. 31, 2020.According to documents, Port and Topgolf officials are eyeing East Harbor Island's "Elbow Parcel" area along North Harbor Drive as a potential location for a seven-acre site. The report goes on to say the project could help ignite future development of the area with more entertainment and hotel options."As an attractor, Topgolf is in that special category or destination activities which are likely to draw patrons to the Port, and who will utilize hotel rooms, restaurants and bars, visitor attractions and recreational boating throughout the Port lands," the analysis said. "While this report details the economic impact of Topgolf, it likely does not do justice to its overall impact as an enhancement to San Diego's front door."Topgolf's proposal includes a facility featuring a driving range, restaurant, bar, meeting space, event and stage area, outdoor patios, three levels of golf bays, and additional games and entertainment, according to the Port. San Diego City Councilwoman Barbara Bry, Assemblyman Todd Gloria, and Congressman Scott Peters all submitted documents to the City Clerk, allowing them to fund raise for the 2020 primary on March 3. They would replace Mayor Kevin Faulconer, a Republican, who is termed out in 2020. Bry formally announced her candidacy on Wednesday. She said her experience as a high tech entrepreneur and nonprofit leader give her a unique approach to tackling key city issues like cost of housing, homelessness, clean energy, and educating students for the jobs of tomorrow.
