BEIJING, Aug. 11 (Xinhua) -- China's Ministry of Health has said it will draw upon its experience from the H1N1 flu control to ensure prevention of the general flu, as the World Health Organization (WHO) announced plans for the post-pandemic period."Based on the experience from A/H1N1 prevention and control, we will revise emergency plans and will continue flu prevention efforts in a bid to ensure people's health," said a statement released late Tuesday by the ministry.Figures from the ministry show that the weekly new A/H1N1 cases have remained below 30 since mid-April. Further, no deaths have been reported for 12 consecutive weeks.While announcing the coming of the post-pandemic period, WHO Director-General Margaret Chan warned that the A/H1N1 virus will continue to spread as a seasonal flu for some years.Chan urged health authorities to maintain alert for the virus.So far, about 800 deaths from A/H1N1 influenza had been reported in China, Health Minister Chen Zhu said earlier.More than 100 million Chinese have been vaccinated against A/H1N1 flu as of May 14.The A/H1N1 virus was first identified in Mexico in April 2009. More than 211 countries and regions have reported laboratory confirmed cases of the flu, including more than 18,000 deaths.

BEIJING, Aug. 13 (Xinhua) -- Chinese military forces are rushing to prevent disease in mudslide-devastated Zhouqu County in northwest China's Gansu Province as high temperatures hit the area where at least 1,156 people were dead.While giving medical treatment to 12,000 local residents, soldiers have also sterilized an area of 128,000 square meters in the disaster-hit county, Wang Wenjie, a senior officer with the Lanzhou Military Area Command of the People's Liberation Army (PLA), said Friday.On Thursday, the Ministry of Health warned of disease-prevention challenges in Zhouqu, as dead bodies and dead animals entombed in the mud may easily decay in the hot weather.Although wells have been dug up to ensure water supply, the ministry said sterilization work is difficult as the water may be contaminated during transportation and storage.In order to ensure rescuers' health, more disinfectant and anti-sunstroke medicine has been dispatched to Zhouqu along with fresh clothing.While more equipment is en route to Zhouqu, Wang said more epidemic prevention workers are ready to go to Zhouqu if needed.Tuo Chengxiang, a senior officer with the Chinese People's Armed Police Force, said the main roads into the township are covered in sludge, hampering vehicular access to the area.A total of 6,281 soldiers and armed policemen are participating in the rescue and relief work in Zhouqu. They have saved 45 lives and delivered 808 tonnes of relief supplies.Besides personnel, 17 helicopters and aeroplanes and 35 rubber rafts have been mobilized to the disaster-hit area.Also on Friday, the PLA General Political Department issued a circular ordering soldiers and policemen in Zhouqu to lead the rescue and relief work while giving top priority to saving people's lives.

BEIJING, July 15 (Xinhua) -- At least 135 people had been confirmed dead and 41 are missing, as some of the worst flooding in years continues in south China.By 4 p.m. Thursday, close to 35.5 million people in 10 southern provinces and Chongqing Municipality had been affected by continuous rainstorms and floods since July 1, the Civil Affairs Ministry said in a notice on its website.About 113,000 homes were destroyed and more than 1.2 million people had been relocated, it said.Direct economic losses were estimated at about 26 billion yuan (3.8 billion U.S. dollars), up from Wednesday's 22.2 billion yuan.In Jiangxi Province alone, at least eight people have died since July 8, and direct economic losses have amounted to more than 2.9 billion yuan.The ministry had dispatched work groups to Jiangxi to direct relief work.The Office of State Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters announced earlier Thursday that floods had killed 594 people in 26 provinces since the beginning of the year. MOSCOW, Aug 20 (Xinhua) -- Trade between China and Russia has returned to the fast track in 2010, as bilateral trade volume reached 30.7 billion U.S. dollars from January to July, Russian and Chinese officials said here Friday.That represented a 49.6-percent increase year-on-year, the officials said at the 13th meeting of the Russia-China inter-governmental trade commission, which was co-chaired by Russia's Economic Development Minister Elvira Nabiullina and her Chinese counterpart Chen Deming.Mutual investments also surged this year, as Chinese direct investment to Russia jumped 58.5 percent during the first half of 2010 and the Russian investment to China up 18.3 percent, they said.Russia is interested in continuing cooperation in such areas as electric power, nuclear energy, logistic infrastructure, Nabiullina said.Chen said Chinese companies are willing to increase investment in Russian enterprises and to take part in their infrastructure construction.He noted that China would take active measures to promote the import of Russian mechanical and electrical products, and also hopes that in return Russia will open its market to more Chinese cars.During the meeting, chambers of commerce and companies from the two countries inked several cooperation agreements.
