(KGTV) — Navy officials say the San Diego-based aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt is searching for a Sailor overboard off Southern California's coastline Thursday.The ship started rescue efforts after a lookout spotted what they believed to be a person in the water at about 7:30 a.m., according to the Navy. The Navy says one Sailor was unaccounted for during a command-wide roll call. The Sailor's parents identified him as 20-year-old Aviation Ordnanceman Airman Apprentice Ethan Goolsby of San Antonio, Texas, Scripps affiliate KSAT reports. The Navy has not officially identified the missing Sailor.Three search and rescue helicopters and a Rigid Hull Inflatable Boat were launched to assist.The U.S. Coast Guard, U.S. Navy aircraft, USS Bunker Hill, USS Russell, USS Howard, and USS Charleston are also helping in the search and rescue efforts. The Navy says search efforts will continue through Thursday night.No further information about the search efforts was immediately released.The USS Theodore Roosevelt departed San Diego just days ago for a sustainment exercise ahead of its second deployment this year, according to USNI News. (KGTV) -- The family of Trevor Heitmann, the popular internet personality who drove a sports car into another vehicle killing a mother and her young daughter, say they are devastated and are working to understand what led to Thursday’s tragedy. “Our family is devastated over the tragic loss of our beloved Trevor Heitmann,” the family said in a statement sent to this station via email Saturday by their attorney. “We express our deepest condolences to the Pizarro family and anyone impacted by this incident.” “We are piecing together the facts and circumstances that lead to this incomprehensible tragedy.”The family also thanked first responders for their “valiant efforts and dedication.”Heitmann, 18, was behind the wheel of the 2014 sports car that collided with an SUV, killing himself, and a 43-year-old woman and her 12-year-old daughter, according to the San Diego Medical Examiner.Heitmann was traveling at a high rate of speed heading southbound in a northbound HOV lane at about 4:30 p.m. near La Jolla Village Drive before the collision, CHP said. Troopers believe he entered via an HOV lane access at Carol Canyon Road. The two vehicles collided and exploded into flames, witnesses told 10News, causing a chain reaction of crashes with at least five other vehicles.  1315

(KGTV) — Southern California police say they've arrested two people and seized 0,000 in electronics and gift cards in connection to a nationwide phone scam investigation.Fontana Police have arrested Ailing Lu, 25, of Los Angeles and Ji Hyun Lee, 25, of Gardena, over the scam they believe has affected hundreds of victims around the country.Investigators say a victim reported a cold call on Sept. 4 of a scammer impersonating an Internal Revenue Service (IRS) official. The scammer threatened to arrest the victim if they didn't pay them ,200 in Target gift cards.The victim eventually provided the gift cards to the caller and later reported the incident to police.Police tracked the redemption of the gift cards to a Los Angeles Target location, where they investigated surveillance videos of the transactions. Target reported a similar incident from Indiana University Police and investigators compared the two case videos and transactions. Police say they had enough evidence to identify and arrest Lu and Lee after they conducted surveillance on suspected locations and vehicles in Los Angeles.Police served search warrants on two locations as well, discovering about 0,000 in things like gaming systems and computer devices, gift cards, and gift cards from victims.Fontana Police warned the public to contact law enforcement if they receive a similar call and threatening requests. Hunter used campaign funds for personal expenses “to satisfy his desire for intimacy,” U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of California David Leshner alleged in an evidence motion filed Monday. The court document details how and when Hunter spent thousands of dollars on relationships with five women who worked as congressional staffers or lobbyists, prosecutors said. “Carrying out all these affairs did not come cheap,” the U.S. Attorney’s office said. A woman, identified as Individual 14 [I-14] in the motion, started a relationship with Hunter in April 2009, four months after he became the Representative for the 50th District of California, according to the motion. The motion also alleges an instance when Hunter stayed at a Capitol Hill hotel with the female lobbyist on June 21, 2011, only to have his wife Margaret join him the following two nights. “In describing this expenditure to his campaign treasurer later, Hunter never explained the reason he kept the first night at a hotel,” the court document says. In August 2012, about five months after his alleged relationship with I-14 ended, documents indicate Hunter began a relationship with a congressional staffer, identified in court filings as I-15. Hunter began staying at the woman’s home “nearly every night,” using campaign funds for dinners and Uber rides to further the relationship, prosecutors said. RELATED: Rep. The U.S. Attorney’s office filed the evidence motion “to establish the personal nature of the expenditures” and “demonstrate Hunter’s knowledge and intent to break the law, and to establish his motive to embezzle from his campaign.” “Simply put, carrying out a sequence of romantic liaisons is so far removed from any legitimate campaign or congressional activity as to rebut any argument that Hunter believed these were proper uses of campaign funds,” according to the motion.
