LAS VEGAS — For the first time in 20 years, the Food and Drug Administration has approved a new drug for the treatment of the flu.  The antiviral drug, called Xofluza, is a single dose treatment.  It is for patients who are 12 or older.  The drug must be taken within 48 hours of symptoms, according to the F.D.A. "Very exciting that we have another drug on the market," said Dr. Daliah Wachs.Xofluza is said to be as effective as Tamiflu in alleviating symptoms.  "Do I think it's a lifesaver? Potentially yes," said Dr. Wachs.Unlike earlier drugs, Xofluza is expected to work against drug-resistant strains. It will also shorten the length of the flu."The longer you have the flu, the more you are at risk for complications," said Dr. Wachs.Doctors say it is still critically important for everyone to get vaccinated, especially children and the elderly.  900

(KGTV) -- The man caught on video being arrested outside a La Mesa trolley stop has filed a lawsuit against the City of La Mesa.The lawsuit was filed by Amaurie Johnson against the City of La Mesa, Matt Dages, and six John Does.The lawsuit alleges arrest without a probable cause, negligence, excessive force, and violence because of race.The suit comes after viral video showed Johnson’s controversial arrest outside a La Mesa trolley stop in June. In the video, an officer is seen pushing Johnson into a sitting position on a bench. Mr. Johnson and I are discussing our options as far as moving forward with a complaint with the city of la mesa and potentially taking this to state or federal court," Johnson's attorney Troy Owens said in a previous news release. Troy Owens, Johnson's attorney, told ABC 10News, "Mr. Johnson does not feel that his situation or his experience is unique. And we're seeing a pattern of behavior specifically coming from the City of La Mesa and the La Mesa police department, and that is upsetting to everyone."Owens added, "The City of La Mesa pledged transparency and pledged accountability, and we are seeing the exact opposite of that. We're seeing closed investigations. We're seeing no action being taken we're not being given any information, and it's upsetting ... (KGTV) — An East County father who lost his young son in a terrorist bombing in Sri Lanka is reacting to the death of the ISIS founder, who claimed credit for that attack.Alexander Arrow and his son, 11-year-old Kieran Alexander Shafritz de Zoysa, often found themselves on the trails of the Oakoasis County Preserve in Lakeside."We couldn't possibly pass anyone on the trail without him saying hi," said Arrow.Arrow says Kieran was friendly and exceptionally bright, with dreams of becoming a neuroscientist so he could help people. This past Easter, Kieran was in the city of Colombo, Sri Lanka, on a semester abroad. He was having lunch with mother and grandmother, when a suicide bomber walked into the restaurant, and blew himself up. The shrapnel killed Kieran, while his mother and grandmother survived.As a father wrestles with his grief, the man who claimed credit for the Easter day bombings that killed nearly 260 people, is dead. ISIS founder, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, blew himself up after U.S. special operations team cornered him in his compound in Syria this weekend."I am grateful to the U.S. commandos who did their job ... grateful to the armed forces trying to make our world a safer place," said Arrow.While al-Baghdadi claimed credit for the bombings, Sri Lankan authorities believe the suicide bombers were inspired by ISIS, but didn't get any direct aid from them. (AP) - Lake Elsinore’s Walker Canyon, site of a magnificent super bloom of poppies, reopened Monday after “Disneyland size crowds” overwhelmed the small Southern California city, creating what officials called a “miserable situation.” Social media photos showed heavy traffic on Interstate 15 near Lake Street and Nichols Road Sunday, where many visitors stopped and parked illegally to enjoy the flower fields. The California Highway Patrol issued a Sig Alert Monday and shut down the Lake Street offramp to control the situation. Despite the start of the work week, the number of visitors remained high Monday due to spring break, according to Nicole Dailey, assistant to the Lake Elsinore city manager. Dailey was not able to estimate the amount of people traveling to the flower fields. Four people were hurt over the weekend, Dailey said. Lake Elsinore businesses saw a boost, Dailey reported, but it has been “too much of an increase.” Starbucks emailed city officials saying they were overwhelmed by the demand and couldn’t keep up. “This weekend has become unbearable Lake Elsinore,” city officials posted, adding “it has been miserable and has caused unnecessary hardships for our entire community.” Lake Elsinore also reached out to other law enforcement agencies for assistance. “We have brought in all available staff, as many outside traffic controllers that we could, more shuttles, and our small City can not sustain crowds of this magnitude,” city officials said on Instagram. “We have reached out to our neighboring and county agencies for help. We have reached out to Caltrans. We have reached out to CHP.
