RANCHO PENASQUITOS (KGTV) - Teens playing basketball in Rancho Penasquitos said they were robbed Saturday night. Police said during the pursuit of a car that matched the description, it crashed and rolled onto the roof.One suspect was injured from the crash as he was not wearing a seatbelt. He was trapped in the car and arrested.Police say two other suspects, identified as a black man in his 20s and a Hispanic man in his early 20s fled the vehicle.K9s searched the area for the suspects.Ed Solis, the father of one of the boys who was robbed, said it was his son's 18th birthday and they were celebrating at home.Toward the end of the party, the guys wanted to play basketball at Views West Park. They left their belongings in a pile and noticed a group of men stealing their wallets and phones.The teens went after the attempted robbers and were able to catch one. Solis said one of the men came back and threatened the boys, saying he had a gun and would "smoke them."The boys let the man go and then called Solis about the robbery. He rushed over, and found all the boys were safe and unharmed, but shaken.Officers caught up with the suspect vehicle at 14500 Penasquitos Drive where it flipped.Some of the boys got their items back, while others did not. 1319

RAMONA, Calif. (KGTV) - A suspect was taken into custody following a hit-and-run crash that injured a bicyclist in Ramona in early October. Chase Richard, 32, was arrested on the 16000 block of Swartz Canyon Road in Ramona Tuesday. According to California Highway Patrol, Richard is a Ramona resident. Earlier in the week, authorities said they found the vehicle that injured the cyclist. The bicyclist, Michelle Scott, was seriously injured the morning of Oct. 2. on State Route 67 near Dye Road. The vehicle involved was a black 2019 Ford Edge, according to the CHP. Witnesses provided information which led investigators to the possible location of the vehicle involved in the crash. Officers saw the vehicle with damage consistent with the hit-and-run collision. RELATED: Bicyclist airlifted after being hurt in hit-and-run crash in Ramona “The vehicle was observed parked and partially hidden in the garage of a private residence in the San Diego Country Estates,” Ofc. Jeff Christy said in a news release. Monday, CHP investigators served a warrant at the home and seized the vehicle as evidence. RAINBOW, Calif. (KGTV) - A new overpass may be destined for the I-15, not for people but mountain lions.A just-released study led by The Nature Conservancy and backed by the National Park Service recommended a stretch of the I-15 just south of Temecula - either an overpass or underpass like crossings in Colorado, Utah and Wyoming - allowing mountain lions and other wildlife to safely get across.On the west side of the highway is preserve space owned by San Diego State University.  On the other side are 73 acres just purchased by The Nature Conservancy.  Experts says the local mountain lions have been cut off by the freeways and are practicing inbreeding."That makes them more susceptible to disease, and that could be catastrophic for the mountain lion population," said Cara Lacey, an associate program director at The Nature Conservancy.Lacey points out crossings in other states have also cut down on vehicle collisions with wildlife.  She says at least three mountain lions were struck by vehicles in that stretch of I-15 in 2017.  Caltrans is studying a crossing on Highway 101, which would cost between and million. 1165

RAINBOW (CNS) - A 51-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of attempting to abduct a 61-year-old woman while she was walking in a senior mobile home community in northern San Diego County, authorities said.At 1:10 p.m. Sunday, a 61-year-old woman called 911 and reported that a man, later identified as Francisco Gutierrez, had attempted to kidnap her in the 4700 block of Oak Crest Road, in a senior mobile home park in Rainbow, Sheriff's Lt. Arnold Aldana.The woman reported that Gutierrez had allegedly crept up behind her, grabbed her and attempted to drag her away, Aldana said. She was able to fight him off and run to a nearby neighbor to call 911.Deputies responded to the area and were flagged down by a witness who directed them to Gutierrez, who was sitting in a vehicle he had allegedly broken into, the lieutenant said.Deputies gave Gutierrez multiple commands to surrender, but he refused and a sheriff's K-9 was deployed, Aldana said. Gutierrez was taken into custody and transported to Tri-City Medical Center in Oceanside for treatment of unknown injuries he suffered during the arrest.Upon release from the hospital, Gutierrez was expected to be booked into the Vista Detention Facility on suspicion of kidnapping, assault with intent to commit rape, resisting arrest and attempted auto theft, Aldana said. 1333
