SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — San Francisco police say they arrested a man suspected in the abduction of a ring-tailed lemur from the city’s zoo, where officials rewarded a 5-year-old boy who helped recapture the endangered primate with a lifetime membership. "It's kind of been a roller coaster ever since. Everything keeps changing," said Gamez. The agreement continues the hold on tourism and recreational trips, but essential business and trade are not affected. Crossing for educational or medical reasons is also permitted. SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Two girls who were lost in a dense Northern California forest for nearly two days say they survived frigid nights by huddling under a tree branch and a huckleberry bush and by thinking "happy thoughts."Leia Carrico, 8, and her 5-year-old sister Caroline, said in an interview Monday they went on a hike last Friday past a marker that their parents told them not to pass because they wanted an adventure but lost their way home."I just wanted a little more adventure, I said to go a little farther," Caroline said.Leia said her sister cried the entire first night and she told her to think happy thoughts as they huddled under a tree branch close to the ground."I thought of going to the park with mommy and daddy. I thought of going to the ocean. I thought of everything I remembered, but it didn't work," Caroline said.Leia kept watch both nights and thought about the good memories from a family vacation to Monterey, California, she said.She said she also remembered what she learned from watching movies of people surviving in the wilderness, going camping every summer and the training with their local 4-H club. SANTA BARBARA, Calif. (KGTV) -- A fast-moving fire broke out in the mountains near Santa Barbara late Monday afternoon. According to KEYT, the blaze, named the Cave Fire, sparked around 4:15 p.m. along Highway 154 and East Camino Cielo. By 5 p.m., the fire had burned 15 acres. That number quickly grew to 2,500 acres by 7:54 p.m., The Tribune reports. (KGTV) — Santee voters this November will weigh in on two measures that deal with limits on serving as a City Council member or as Mayor.Measure Q and R each intend to address term limits on City Council and Mayoral positions in the city of Santee, however, they each take a different approach to limit how long someone can serve.The text of Measure Q reads as follows:City of Santee - Measure Q: "Shall the measure amending the Santee Municipal Code to require that no person shall serve as an 'Elected Official,' defined to include the offices of Mayor and Member of the City Council, for more than twelve years, or three terms, whichever is less, with any portion of term, whether by election or appointment, counting as a full term, be adopted?"Measure Q would not allow anyone to serve as either Mayor or a City Council member, or any combination of those positions, for more than 12 years, or three four-year terms, with any portion of a term counting as a full term.The competing measure, Measure R, reads as follows:City of Santee - Measure R: "Shall an ordinance amending the Santee Municipal Code to establish a three-term lifetime limit on City Council service and a separate two-term lifetime limit on Mayoral service, be adopted?"In other words, no one can serve as Mayor for more than two, four-year terms and, separately and in addition, as a City Council member for three, four-year terms, regardless of the district a person represented.
