SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Horton Plaza's sale to real-estate firm Stockdale Capital Partners hopes to revitalize the plaza back to its former glory.10News reported the downtown shopping center was in escrow back in June. Now, plans for the site's future are being released, including a hub for mixed-use offices, retail, and restaurants, according to the firm's plans. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Eateries in Ocean Beach say Memorial Day weekend is getting them back on top after a slow winter.A couple factors in play, nearly back to back storms and the closed pier. "Our numbers are still way above normal so we'll take it," South Beach Bar & Grille Bartender Philip Cullin said Friday and Saturday were great for business.Next door at Lighthouse Ice Cream, those sentiments were echoed.Sunday was a different story, clouds loomed overhead with sprinkles and rain in the evening, dampening the influx of customers. "It's really cold, there's not that many people out," 14-year-old birthday girl Bella said. She came out with friends and family to celebrate.Businesses thankful to see those customers, saying it's been tough through the slow winter months.Inside the bar, Cullin said they saw lots of business Sunday, "it comes in waves, you'll get like a mad lunch rush, everybody bombs in at the same time to get their fish tacos, and then they clear out mid afternoon and your locals come in."With the pier open, they're seeing even more people, "this area gets way more congested when people are chilling at the pier," Cullin said."I found out Thursday night the pier was opening on Friday and I knew I had to get here early and start making waffle cones, it was a busy day for us, we couldn't even find parking in the morning," Lighthouse Ice Cream Manager Robbie Valdivia said.They're hopeful Memorial Day will bring sunshine and another wave of customers."We actually had them for about two weeks now, a lot of tourists here from out of town, out of state, so it's been really really nice," Valdivia said, knowing it's the unofficial start of summer. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Governor Gavin Newsom is expected to sign a bill that would create a cap on annual rental increases. The bill passed both chambers of the California legislature this week. The bill would limit rent increases to 5% per year, plus the rate of inflation.It would also implement “just cause” protections, which require landlords to give specific reasons for evictions if tenants have lived in a unit for more than a year. 444

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — From California to Maine, breweries across the country are stepping up to help California fire victims.The effort started with the Sierra Nevada brewery. While their facility was spared by the Camp Fire, communities around it were devastated.Sierra Nevada founder Ken Grossman reached out to fellow brewers to join him in the disaster relief effort, making their ‘Resilience Butte County Proud IPA’ recipe available to those who want to help. The brewery is asking that 100 percent of profits go to fire relief efforts. So far over 1,200 breweries have pledged to make and sell the beer.“I’ve never seen anything on this scale,” said Jim Millea, brewmaster at OB Brewery. “That’s a lot of beer being made for a good cause, it’s pretty sweet!”Millea says he didn’t hesitate to join the effort.“Who wouldn’t want to be a part of a good cause?” said Millea. He’s one of many in the San Diego region who will be brewing Resilience IPA. Millea hopes to have his on tap at the OB Brewery in a few weeks.
