A Sichuan Airlines co-pilot was sucked halfway out of an aircraft's cockpit when its windshield shattered during a flight, Chinese state media has reported.Captain Liu Chuanjian and his crew were praised for making an emergency landing after the incident, which occurred at 30,000 feet on an Airbus A319 flight from the Southern city of Chongqing to Lhasa, the capital of Tibet."The situation was very critical. The windshield was blown off at a 10,000-meter-high altitude. The aircraft was in a state of low pressure and a temperature was minus 30 to minus 40 degree celsius," Jiang Wenxue, a Civil Aviation Administration (CAA) official, was quoted as saying by state news agency Xinhua.The co-pilot almost got sucked out of the cockpit but kept calm, according to Chinese state television station CCTV."There was no sign before the windshield burst. Just a huge noise," Captain Liu was reported as saying by state news agency China News Service."When I looked at the other side, the co-pilot was partially blown out of the aircraft. Luckily, he had the belt buckled up. Many devices were malfunctioned and the plane was jolting strongly. It was very difficult to control," he added.The co-pilot suffered scratches and a sprained wrist, the CAA said, adding that a flight attendant was also injured. None of the plane's 119 passengers were injured and the aircraft safely landed at Chengdu Shuangliu Airport in southern China.However, passengers and crew described frightening scenes on board the plane during the incident."All people were shouting onboard. We just tried our best to reassure the passengers and make everyone believe us that we could touch down safely," Zhou Yanwen, the injured flight attendant, was quoted as saying by China News Service."It happened as the flight attendants were serving our meals. People were shocked," the agency quoted an unnamed passenger as saying.Zhou said that some air stewardesses were thrown into air and that food was strewn about.The windshield shattered over the southwest city of Chengdu about an hour and twenty minutes after flight 3U8633 took off at 6.27 am local time (1027 GMT), the CAA said in statement released by CCTV.An investigation into the incident is underway.Chinese people praised the pilot as an "epic hero" on social media, according to China News Service."The crew were level-headed and dealt with the crisis decisively and properly, avoiding a major disaster, which shows the superb technical skills and professionalism," the CAA added.  2523

A San Diego woman spent months stealing from visitors inside some of the city's fanciest waterfront hotels, Harbor Police say.Anjeanette Crumrine, 49, allegedly stole more than ,000 worth of items -- largely from the Hilton Bayfront, Manchester Grand Hyatt, and Sheraton Harbor Island. Harbor Police say she also stole a violin worth ,000 from a classroom at Point Loma Nazarene University. "It worked for her, so she just continued to do what she was comfortable with," said Harbor Police Sgt. Michael Dye. Crumrine often targeted guests attending conventions at the large hotels. She'd walk in, pick up a suitcase, purse, or briefcase, go into an empty bathroom, pick through it, before leaving, police say. Crumrine is also accused of using the stolen credit cards to buy gift cards, and one time changed into stolen clothes inside one of the hotel bathrooms before walking out. "If it's a convention you have people moving in and out of rooms," Dye said. "It's an easy target because she would go unnoticed."Police arrested Crumrine?on April 18 after a slow speed chase through Valencia Park. But the threat of petty crime isn't over.Harbor Police report 218 property crime instances so far this year, up 22 percent from the same time period in 2017."We're just extra careful. We carry all of our stuff most of the time," said Jennifer Jones, visiting from Denver. "I don't put my stuff down. A North Carolina schoolteacher who disappeared last month while out for a walk in Mexico is dead, according to a post on the verified Facebook page of the Governor of Chihuahua.Patrick Braxton-Andrew, 34, from Davidson, disappeared October 28 after leaving his hotel in Urique. Gov. Javier Corral Jurado, writing in Spanish, said that Braxton-Andrew crossed paths with a drug dealer from the Sinaloa cartel and was killed in a "cowardly and brutal murder."A Facebook page set up to find Braxton-Andrew said that Chihuahua state authorities had confirmed the death and are searching for those responsible to bring them to justice."The family would like to thank the Chihuahua Governor and Attorney General for their unwavering commitment to locating Patrick," a message said on the Find PBA Facebook page."Patrick died doing what he loved — traveling and meeting people. Join us in celebrating his life as he would want us to do. We will always remember Patrick and his joy for life. We love you PBA."His disappearance garnered national and international attention. Sen. A runner in Sunday's London Marathon who appeared on the BBC television show "Masterchef: The Professionals" collapsed during the race and later died, according to the event organizers.Matt Campbell, 29, collapsed after running 22.5 miles of the 26.2-mile course, the London Marathon organization said in a statement. Despite receiving immediate medical treatment, Campbell died later at a hospital. The cause of death has not yet been established.The organizers offered their "sincere condolences to Matt's family and friends," adding that the family has asked for privacy.Campbell's family paid tribute to an "inspirational son and brother," who was an avid marathon runner. A report from the Tucson Police Department is revealing new details about the death of Carlos Adrian Ingram-Lopez while in TPD custody in April.The police department began its investigation into the incident hours after it happened on April 21. Nearly two months later, on June 19, the department finished its report and handed it off to TPD Chief Chris Magnus. After a news conference about the incident Wednesday, TPD released the full report to members of the news media.TIMELINE: What happened after Carlos Ingram-Lopez died while in TPD custodyThe report recommends termination for officers Samuel Routledge, Ryan Starbuck, and Jonathan Jackson, who had resigned the day before the investigation was completed.The discipline report focuses on how officers are supposed to treat someone in a state of “excited delirium," how it greatly increased the risk of dangerous physical distress and how the three officers failed to meet their standards and training.The report draws a number of conclusions about the officers involved in the incident. It says:The initial report of Ingram-Lopez's behavior should have prepared the officers to deal with excited delirium before they even saw him.Ingram-Lopez's behavior at the scene made excited delirium very clear.The report documents dates of when the officers had training on excited delirium at the academy and in other training sessions after that.Excited delirium and the likelihood of drug intake make overheating and rapid heartbeat something officers should anticipate.The fact that he was calling for water confirms they should have been more aware of his physical distress.The officers were trained on, and should have been alert to, signs of breathing trouble, like wheezing, and simply saying “I can’t breathe." Ingram-Lopez did both.The officers had been trained on the “recovery position” designed to reduce physical distress on a restrained suspect.One of the officers who arrived later said within 15 seconds, “Shouldn’t he be in the recovery position?” That officer is not being disciplined.The officers put a “spit sock” over Ingram-Lopez's face because of his choking and clearing his throat made them fear he would spit and spread COVID-19. The spit sock was available to officers even before the COVID outbreak.While officers did not use prohibited methods like neck holds, they noted Ingram-Lopez was a large man and one of the officers kneeled on his back for a sustained period.Officer Jonathan Jackson was Lead Police Officer -- slightly more senior than the other officers who first arrived at the scene. He was expected to take command and organize the other officers.
