SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Small businesses are the heart of San Diego's economy, but for those looking to start one, the process can feel overwhelming. It's a gap the nonprofit lender Accion has been working to fill for the last 25 years. "Sometimes thinking about getting a loan can be scary, and I think one of the things we really try to do through our process with our staff is really walk alongside that business owner," said Elizabeth Shott, CEO of Accion. Since they began in 1994, Accion has loaned million to roughly 3,100 small businesses."We're teaching them about their credit, about their finance, and their cash flow. So through the loan process they're getting a lot of one-on-one education from our staff team," said Shott.On Accion's website, you can apply for a loan as well as learn about free resources available in San Diego. After Moreno successfully launched his food truck he was able to open a restaurant with help from Accion. Shott cautions businesses to be careful when getting any loan, being sure to ask questions and understand the terms and fees. Her staff often hears about predatory lenders online which can ultimately cost a business far more than they're able to afford. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego ranks in the top 25 for cities with the most people earning six-figure salaries, according to a study by SmartAsset. The company took a look at data from the IRS on the percentage of tax returns with income greater than 0,000 in the largest 100 metros. The analysis showed that San Diego took home one of the top spots. According to the site, America’s Finest City ranked 18th along with Carlsbad for the city with the most people making six figures. 493

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Seven patients from Rady Children’s Hospital took a break from their treatment and got in the water with Bottlenose dolphins.SeaWorld trainer Jorge Villa hosted the children for the experience. Villa holds a special place in his heart for Rady Children’s because he was treated there when he was diagnosed with Diabetes at the age of 12.For many of the children, it’s therapeutic and offers them a chance to forget about whatever health challenges they face and focus on being a kid.“It just brings you into the playful childishness that you have in your heart and in your mind,” said Juliana Abraham, 14. She’s been fighting a rare form of brain cancer.  Her mom says faith, prayer, and a positive attitude have helped Juliana persevere.Rady has been offering the dolphin interaction program to patients since 2008. It was first inspired by SeaWorld dolphin trainer and cancer survivor Joy Clausen-Soto.For more information on the program, contact Rady Children’s Hospital at 858-576-1700. 1038

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego State's plans for a Mission Valley stadium cleared one of its last major hurdles.The university's design and financing plans for Aztec Stadium were approved by the California State University Board of Trustees, leaving only the close of sale on the land — and current coronavirus pandemic — left.The board's approval gives SDSU the ability to prepare construction for a 35,000-capacity stadium, eventually leading to a Mission Valley campus.RELATED: City of San Diego, SDSU inch closer to SDCCU Stadium site deal"We are pleased that the trustees continue to share our vision for this project, as the construction of the stadium is a key first step allowing us to unlock the rest of the Mission Valley site plan," SDSU President Adela de la Torre said.
