Nurses at an assisted living facility in Glendale, Arizona are facing backlash for filming and making fun of elderly patients. The video ended up posted to the social media site 'Snapchat'. The incident occurred at the Glencroft Senior Living facility.  An administrator from Glencroft told Phoenix-based KNXV that the facility cannot discuss personnel issues, but did learn about the video Monday morning and is taking the situation seriously. The video shows an elderly woman using a walker as she advances toward the camera. She is obviously agitated, telling the workers she "almost fell" and is seen asking for her pills. Instead of helping the woman, the nurses continue filming as they watch the woman and mock her.The video came to light after a whistleblower saw it on social media and alerted KNXV, as well as Glencroft, and the Arizona state agency that licenses nurses.She is also a nurse and said she knows the woman who made the video from nursing school. "It just disgusted me that you would treat someone like this," said the whistleblower, who asked to remain anonymous. "This lady obviously has some dementia or something going on."The whistleblower also said she is worried about violations of the patient's rights under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act.  KNXV has reached out to the Arizona State Board of Nursing but has yet to receive an answer on this topic.  1468

OCILLA, Ga. — A nurse at an immigration detention center in Georgia says authorities performed questionable hysterectomies, refused to test detainees for COVID-19 and shredded medical records.Advocacy group Project South has filed a complaint with the Homeland Security Department's internal watchdog that relies heavily on the nurse's words.That nurse, Dawn Wooten, worked at the Irwin County Detention Center in southern Georgia. In addition to holding detainees for Immigration and Customs Enforcement, it also serves those arrested by the U.S. Marshals and the Irwin County Sheriff's Department.In her complaint, Wooten called a gynecologist who works outside the facility, "the uterus collector." She claimed that nearly every inmate who saw the doctor received a hysterectomy and claimed the doctor removed the "wrong ovary" on at least one patient.Wooten said it was unclear if the patients — particularly immigrant women — knowingly agreed to the procedure, which would prevent them from having children in the future.She says she saw a sick-call nurse shred a box of detainee complaints without looking at them.Wooten claimed she was eventually fired from the facility for raising concerns about COVID-19. She said she was demoted after she missed time for presenting symptoms of the virus.She claims that inmates were likely infected with the virus at a rate much higher than reported because the facility declined to use two rapid-testing COVID-19 machines. Wooten said no staff members had been trained to use the machines and she only saw them in use once.U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement said it will defer to the Homeland Security inspector general."That said, in general, anonymous, unproven allegations, made without any fact-checkable specifics, should be treated with the appropriate skepticism they deserve," the agency said in a statement.LaSalle Corrections, a private company that owns and operates the facility, did not respond to The Associated Press' request for comment. 2013

Oceanside (KGTV): The Main Attraction is getting ready for its last dance.The popular topless bar, the last of its kind in the North County, was recently sold. Developers now plan to turn the land it sits on, as well as more than 5 acres around it, into a mixed-use housing project.Papers filed with the City of Oceanside Planning Department show plans for a five story, 308-unit complex that also includes 4,000 square feet of street front retail stores and a six-story parking garage. Wood Partners and Lightfoot Planning Group filed the plans.The land sits just west of the 5 freeway near the intersection of North Coast Highway and Costa Pacifica Way. A vacant lot covers most of the 5.3-acre parcel. A few abandoned warehouses and the strip club stand as the only buildings around."It is exciting," says Leslee Gaul, the CEO of Visit Oceanside. "It’s part of the renaissance in our community, and I think it’s a great location."Gaul's office is right across the street from the topless bar. She works in the California Welcome Center. The Main Attraction is the first thing most visitors see when they get off the freeway in Oceanside.Gaul says the club has been a good neighbor, but she's ready for the change."It’s been a low key, positive relationship for many years," she says. "But as things change and our community changes, this is part of that."Homes within the complex will range from a 550 square foot studio to 1,550 square foot townhomes. The majority of the 308 units will be either one or two-bedroom apartments. Meanwhile, the plans from the developer say residents will have modern amenities, including "an indoor‐outdoor social lounge with pool access and catering kitchen, a fitness center, an artist center, bicycle room, and surfboard storage." There will also be a 5th‐floor deck with an ocean view.Phone calls to the developer, the city and the topless bar weren't returned this week. ORLANDO, Fla. – Disney World has closed a loophole that allowed guests not to wear face masks while walking around the park, if they were eating or drinking something.In its updated guidelines, the amusement park says you may still remove your face covering while actively eating or drinking, “but you should be stationary and maintain appropriate physical distancing.”Before the guidelines were updated, visitors were reportedly seen walking throughout the park with beverages and food, but without masks.Face coverings are required for all guests at the park, ages 2 and up. The only other exception listed on the park’s website is while swimming.Disney says all face coverings must be made with at least two layers of breathable material, fully cover the nose and mouth, fit snugly but comfortably against the face, and be secured with ties or loops. Neck gaiters and open-chin triangle bandanas are not permitted.With COVID-19 continuing to spike, especially in Florida, some are criticizing Disney World for reopening took quickly.
