SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Photographers are expected to crowd to one particular spot on La Jolla's shores this week to catch the phenomenon known as "Scrippshenge."Twice a year, the sun sets on the horizon just right as to fall directly between the pilings of Scripps Pier. For those hoping to catch a shot, your best chance is Wednesday, according to the website SunCalc. The website forecasts which direction the sun will rise and set based on the day and time. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - People looking to sell their home may be leaving thousands of dollars on the table by not renovating before listing, mainly because money is tight during the Coronavirus pandemic.Now, a San Diego-based company wants to help.Renovating Lives will pay for renovations up front to increase the value of a home before it sells."A lot of the people that we help are in horrible financial situations," says CEO Greg May. "They're they're they're stuck with being taken advantage of by vulture investors."May's company works with the homeowners on a renovation plan and then covers the costs.Homeowners pay the company back when the house sells, along with financing and administrative fees."There are 10s of thousands of properties out there that need work, that are deferred maintenance or just dated," says May. "If people had to sell them as is, they would be leaving 10s of thousands of dollars on the table."May says his company can typically increase a home's value by an average of 5,000.That's what happened with owner Bill Stutzer. After his wife passed away, he wanted to sell his 5-bedroom home as is, listing for around 0,000.But a smaller house across the street sold for nearly 5,000 after some renovations. Stutzer didn't know what to do with his home until he called Renovating Lives."I didn't want to do anything," he says. "I was just going to leave my house, as is, and try and sell it, and soon realized that wasn't going to I wasn't going to cut it... It turns out that if you put a little bit upfront and and get some things done it, it magnifies the bottom line."May's company helped Stutzer redo his home from the inside out, with new flooring, paint, doors, lighting and more. It would up selling for 0,000."My reaction was, wow, this is a modern house. This house could be in a magazine. I absolutely could not believe it. I couldn't believe my eyes," he says.May says Stutzer's home is a best case scenario, but he wants to give hope to others in a similar situation."I want more people to understand there is hope out there, you don't have to sell your house for pennies on the dollar to a profiteer," says May. "I will help you fix up that house and put the cash in your pocket."May says this is especially important now, as people may decide to save money during the pandemic by not renovating before selling. He says its best to take advantage of the housing market while it's still high."Don't wait until it's too late, until they burn through their nest egg, and they're in foreclosure and their credit's being hurt," he says. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Murder during rape is a special circumstance, meaning no bail for the man accused of killing an elderly woman in her Normal Heights home in 1987.Kevin Ford, 62, didn’t have much to say in court Tuesday, charged with the murder and rape of 79-year-old Grace Hayden. Some advances in technology and persistent police work helping make today happen after three decades.The video remains just as chilling today as it was 31 years ago. Hayden's body was wheeled out of her home. Her neighbor told 10News reporter Steve Fiorina back then, that she was a friendly neighbor."She was loveable, friendly, never bothered, as far as I know, anyone," the neighbor said."Never went out because she was something like handicapped. She was a nice lady," another neighbor said.The case went cold until a single fingerprint found on Hayden’s stove. And some hard work led investigators to an arrest in North Carolina.San Diego DA investigator Tony Johnson was reviewing the unsolved case when he found that fingerprint. He submitted it to a national database and got a hit from a 20-15 warrant out of North Carolina.Three years ago he talked with KPBS saying, “a case goes cold primarily when the initial team that’s investigating the case has run out of leads.”Ford was extradited to San Diego. Tuesday, he was arraigned before a judge. A public defender said ford denies all charges.Ford is due back in court on Aug. 7. 1460

  

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - On Monday evening, a city official put inspection tags the doors of the Barrio Logan warehouse where a platform collapsed this weekend, injuring 21 minors and a few adults. It happened Saturday night at Vault PK parkour gym on Main Street. The facility is closed until further notice.RELATED: Structure collapses at Barrio Logan parkour centerOn Monday, inspectors with the city of San Diego toured the warehouse as part of their investigation, which is still in its preliminary stages. A city spokesperson told us there are "definite code violations" and permit issues, but no further details were released. Cal/OSHA was notified of the incident but is not investigating since no workers were injured. Team 10 verified that Vault PK's business license became active in July. On the gym's Facebook page, it appears the owner posted in June that her father and brother were working on much of the construction of the gym. RELATED:?Investigation underway in platform collapse at San Diego parkour gymMonday afternoon, Team 10 spoke to a local father whose wife, son and daughter were at the gym at the time of the collapse. He didn't want his name used but said his son sustained injuries to his foot and his wife has a broken foot. He says his 16-year-old daughter is still in the hospital with a broken pelvis and broken arm. There's no word on when she'll be released.The father says he was at the parkour gym a few days before the incident and told us the facility appeared like it didn't meet proper safety standards.Vault PK also operates a facility in Torrance and told Team 10 investigator Jennifer Kastner the gym is closed for inspections. 1719

  

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Police are asking for the public’s help identifying a man they believe robbed the same San Diego gas station twice in six months.According to police, the first robbery happened at the Chevron on the 3500 block of National Avenue on June 2 at 4 a.m. with the second taking place November 3 at 3:52 a.m.During both robberies, the suspect stole cash and cigarettes, pointing a handgun at the clerk. The suspect is described as a Hispanic male, 35 to 40-years-old and between 5’6’” and 5’9” tall.During the June robbery the man was wearing blue jeans and a black hooded sweatshirt. On November 3, the suspect was wearing blue jeans, a blue and white plaid shirt, blue bandana and a black baseball cap.Anyone with information is asked to call the San Diego Police at 619-531-2299 or Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477. ??????? 850
