In a chaotic incident that lasted more than hour, inmates inside a maximum security section at Lewis Prison repeatedly set fires outside of their cells, eventually forcing the evacuation of the entire unit. It happened on November 8, 2018 in the Rast Max Unit. Surveillance video obtained by KNXV television station shows a team of officers watched much of the destruction unfold with little or no intervention. The reason: Top officials inside the prison directed the staff to let inmates get it out of their system and avoid calling a critical incident, which would have to be thoroughly documented and sent to the Arizona Department of Corrections’ headquarters. As a result of this story, those top officials are no longer employed with the Department of Corrections. “The warden and the deputy warden of this unit, they were watching this cluster going on saying we want to minimize this,” said Carlos Garcia, a retired lieutenant and union grievance coordinator. “They don’t want anybody to see this and send out the message that we can’t control our prison. They are in fear, fear of this director.” The deputy warden was Jeff Rode, and the warden was Berry Larsen. Both retired Wednesday, the day after ABC15 contacted the state about the incident. KNXV spoke with independent sources who said both Rode and Larsen were aware of the chaotic situation. JACKSON, MO. — A rescued puppy is attracting a lot of attention because of his cute resemblance to a unicorn.The nearly 10-week-old puppy, named Narwhal, has a tail-like appendage growing from his forehead.Narwhal was rescued over the weekend and sent to Mac's Mission in Jackson, which specializes in fostering animals with special needs.Mac's Mission founder Rochelle Steffen says Narwhal doesn't notice the extra tail and is otherwise a happy, healthy puppy.Although it looks like a tail, Narwhal cannot wag it. Steffen says the rescue group has been flooded with requests from people wanting to adopt Narwhal since his picture hit social media.But he'll remain at Mac's Mission so his caretakers can be sure the tail doesn't grow out of proportion to his face and cause him problems. 799

Kentucky Attorney General Andy Beshear is the projected winner in a contentious gubernatorial race, overtaking the incumbent Republican Gov. Matt Bevin in a state President Donald Trump won by nearly 30 points in 2016. Beshear unofficially won by 4,000 votes. The projection was made by Scripps' Lexington station WLEX-TV.This comes despite Trump's popularity in the state, and Trump making a stop in Kentucky on Monday, appearing alongside Bevin. A Mason-Dixon poll showed that 65 of Kentucky voters oppose an impeachment of Trump. The same poll also showed that 57 percent of Kentuckians approve of Trump’s job performance. Nationally, most polls show Trump with an above 50 percent disapproval rating, and nearly 50 percent of U.S. voters supportive of Trump’s impeachment.But polls showed the race between Bevin and Beshear would be neck and neck, and those polls appear to be accurate. A Mason-Dixon poll of 625 Kentucky voters in October showed a 46-46 tie between the two candidates.The relationship between Bevin and Beshear has been contentious, as Beshear has sued the Bevin administration, most recently in the spring over Bevin’s office issuing subpoenas during a statewide teacher sick-out.
