(KGTV) - The Sweetwater Union High School District Board unanimously passed a revised and balanced budget for the 2018-2019 school year.It comes after they discovered a million accounting mistake. The budget did not take into account staff raises.The budget changes are a combination of spending freezes, furloughs, as well as money received from education grants and funds.The revised budget freezes several positions currently open.It also puts district officials on furlough days. “Based on your level of management we’re asking for different days there. So it’s a scale based on your positions. Our superintendent, for example, is gonna be doing ten furlough days this year,” Manny Rubio, a district spokesman, said.The district also worked with the unions, so teachers will give up two so-called ‘training days,’ which are paid, non-classroom days.The budget also touches on other cost-saving measures, including energy conservation strategies, consolidating summer school sites and cutting back on faculty travel expenses.The budget will head to the San Diego County Office of Education, which has until Nov. 8 to approve it. 1188

(KGTV) - A South Bay dentist is donating his time and services to a local Border Patrol agent with ALS.10News first showed you Jeff Miranda’s fight against his deadly disease earlier this month. Miranda was diagnosed three years ago. He is now in a wheelchair and uses eye gaze technology to communicate.Dr. Alex Liu of the Otay Lakes Dental Group saw the 10News story and decided to help. The family has been patients there for a few years.Dr. Liu will now be providing dental work to the entire family free of charge."We've seen it firsthand the effects that ALS has had not just on Jeffrey, but the family as well," said office manager Pablo Rojas. Liz Miranda told 10News reporter Melissa Mecija this “is above and beyond!”“We are extremely grateful to them as well as you and the Channel 10 news team for all of this support!” Liz wrote. 875

The San Diego chapter of the North American Taiwanese Women’s Association makes a point to help in any natural disaster. While they usually would step up to help with something like hurricane relief, they made it a point to help with the pandemic.A woman connected to the group who also works at Sharp Chula Vista told the seamstresses that the medical workers at her hospital were in need of caps, so the ladies got to work. They made a batch of caps to donate, and haven’t put down their sewing machines since.Every time the ladies make a batch of caps, the medical staff take a picture with the items and send it back to the creators.“We love seeing those smiles from the medical professionals and we feel like we are really doing something for them because they work so hard for the community,” said Chunmei Carol Lin, President of the Taiwanese American Foundation of San Diego.Since the start of the pandemic, the seamstresses have more than 1,000 caps for the Sharp Chula Vista staff, as of September. (KGTV) — Police are searching for the person who shot several kids with a BB gun recently.Thursday just before 4 p.m., three children were walking home from school when they say they were shot with a BB gun by someone driving past them near Montevalle Park on Duncan Ranch Rd. The children didn't need medical attention, but they did have visible injuries, Chula Vista Police said.Two of the girls told 10News reporter Laura Acevedo that a white SUV pulled up next to them before they were shot."The windows went down, and they yelled cuss words at us, and then they just pulled out the BB gun and they shot us," Bella Budd told 10News."If they had hit us in the eye or anywhere else more dangerous, we could've been rushed to the ER or seriously hurt," Brianna Field added.Since that report, CVPD said two other people have also reported being shot with BB gun by an unknown suspect.A description of a vehicle or suspect wasn't immediately available.CVPD is investigating and says anyone with information is asked to call 619-691-5151. 1064

CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) -- The forward rate of spread has been stopped after a fire sparked near a canyon in Chula Vista Thursday evening. The fire started around 5 p.m. in a canyon on the 400 block of Agua Vista Drive. It is in a residential area near the San Miguel Mountain Trailhead.Video from the scene showed white smoke billowing from the canyon.
