SANTEE, Calif. (KGTV) - A report of another car found burning in a driveway is raising questions about a possible fire starter targeting vehicles in Santee. On Shaggybark Drive, Michelle Genshaw and her husband were pulling out of their home two weeks ago -- just before 4:30 in the morning -- when they saw flames in their neighbor's driveway.  A 2007 Acura TL was on fire."It looked odd because there were flames coming out of the front and back of the car, like two separates fires," said Genshaw.Genshaw's husband banged on the door, waking the Arnold family.  Together, they put the fire out with a hose a few minutes later.  Catherine Arnold is thankful the fire didn't spread, but she tells us the car is a total loss."It's really upsetting.  It was my father's car and he passed away and it was the last thing belonging to my dad that I had," said Arnold.Sheriff's investigators were called out and concluded it was arson."We talked to police and they said they smelled gas," said Genshaw.A week and a half later, car alarms sounded along with a Mother's Day inferno on Pearlwood Road.  Neighbors discovered a newly purchased Ford Mustang convertible torched in a driveway.  Mason jars with a flammable liquid were found near the gas tank. A rag was discovered in the car.  The two incidents were about 2 miles apart.10news asked investigators about both arsons, and they said they're looking into a possible link, but have yet to connect them.  Meanwhile, residents in two neighborhoods are now on edge.    "It's really scary to think that could be going on in our neighborhood," said Genshaw. If you have information on the cases, call the Santee Sheriff's substation at 619-956-4000 or Crimestoppers at 888-580-8477.  1794

Searching for a home can be exciting, and frustrating, at the same time. Now, a San Diego realtor is aiming to take the headache -- and heartache -- out of finding a new piece of property in San Diego.Realtor Lauren Taylor said people know within the first two minutes of entering a home whether they're interested or not. "So it really doesn't make sense for a homebuyer to visit a property they haven't experienced on video yet," she said. Taylor launched Savvy Homes Portal, a tool that helps realtors shoot at 360 degree virtual walkthrough of homes on the market. That prospective buyer slides their smartphone into any virtual reality headset, and gets a guided tour by their own agent. Taylor said that could solve the issue of properties not living up to the highly edited photos in their online listings."A lot of our homebuyers started t say, this is not the house I saw online," she said. Taylor says about 30 agents have signed up for the service, which is free for homebuyers. She says it can especially help military families, who can have little time to find homes or are scheduling around deployments. For those who do view listings in person, Realtor.com says to look for red flags like too much scent, water damage, poor tiling, among others.  1304

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — The University of California’s governing board is unanimously backing a measure that would restore affirmative action programs at its schools. The proposed ballot measure would repeal the controversial voter-approved statewide ban that's been blamed for a decline in diversity in the prestigious university system. The vote Monday by the university system's Board of Regents means the UC endorses a proposal that would ask voters in November to repeal 1996's Proposition 209 that banned “preferential treatment” for minority groups applying to state colleges and government jobs. The state Assembly approved the measure last week and it still must pass the state Senate to go on the Nov. 3 ballot. 726

SEATTLE, Wash. -- Starbucks is the latest company to say it will pause social media ads after a campaign led by civil rights organizations called for an ad boycott of Facebook, saying it doesn’t do enough to stop racist and violent content.Starbucks says its actions were not part of the “#StopHateforProfit” campaign, but that it is pausing its social ads while talking with civil rights organizations and its media partners about how to stop hate speech online.“We believe in bringing communities together, both in person and online, and we stand against hate speech,” the company said in a statement Sunday. “We believe more must be done to create welcoming and inclusive online communities, and we believe both business leaders and policy makers need to come together to affect real change.”The coffee chain joined a growing group of companies saying they'll pause ads on Facebook or social media more broadly, including Unilever, the European consumer-goods giant; Coca-Cola; Verizon and dozens of smaller companies. 1029

SANTEE, Calif. (KGTV) — A dream trip to Africa for a Santee grandmother turned into a nightmare as she sat in a tour bus.Daughter-in-law Tomira Baca-Craig says Jeanette Craig, who retired four years ago, left for South Africa two weeks ago. Jeanette had been saving for the trip for more than a year.  It was her first trip to Africa.A few days after she arrived, she was on a tour bus headed to an animal preserve in the landlocked country of Lesotho when the bus overturned, killing three and injuring more than 12 tourists on board, including Jeanette."Because she had her seatbelt on, she wasn't thrown. She was trapped upside down. When the bus rolled, that's when she sustained all her injuries," said Baca-Craig.Jeanette was transported by helicopter to a clinic just outside Lesotho. She has since undergone several surgeries, suffering a fractured pelvis and leg, and torn ligaments in her legs."Now her pain is just shocking. There's a ton of breakthrough pain every time she shifts because the pelvis is bone on bone," said Baca-Craig.Jeanette is comforted by her daughter, who just arrived in South Africa. Loved ones say they just want to bring her home.  "We'd like to get an MRI and another CT scan to and rule out everything else because it was such a traumatic accident," said Baca-Craig. The problem? The trip insurance Jeanette purchased will only cover the original medical evacuation, not a second one to the U.S., which will cost upwards of 0,000. 1500
