(KGTV) -- The Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department identified the scuba diver found dead nine miles off the coast of Long Beach on the ocean floor as Henry Cook, 55, of La Jolla.Cook was scuba diving near an oil platform Saturday afternoon with another diver when something went wrong.Deputies got a "diver in distress" call 12:30 p.m. Saturday near oil platform Elly.A Los Angeles Sheriff’s helicopter responded and hoisted a scuba diver out of a Lifeguard boat, then flew the diver to Catalina Island and was treated in a hyperbaric chamber.Sunday, searchers returned to the area with a remote-controlled underwater robot and located Cook’s body on the ocean floor 200-feet down.Los Angeles County is conducting an autopsy to determine how Cook died. 780

LOS ANGELES (CNS) - Mudslides, flooded freeways and dangerous driving conditions plagued the Southland Thursday thanks to a second straight day of rain, prompting road closures, mandatory evacuation orders in Orange County and fears that the situation could get much worse before the storm moves out. As of midday, no evacuation orders had been issued in the Malibu area, the scene of the recent Woolsey Fire that now has residents on the lookout for mud and debris flows. A mudslide during the morning commute inundated a stretch of Pacific Coast Highway near Leo Carrillo State Beach, forcing a full closure of the heavily traveled roadway clear north to Ventura County. Crews had the bulk of the mud cleared by midday, and the road was reopened. In Orange County, voluntary evacuation orders were issued Thursday morning for select neighborhoods near the Holy Fire, affecting the Trabuco Creek, Rose Canyon and Mystic Oaks/El Cariso areas. LOS ANGELES (AP) — Three out of four Americans favor requiring people to wear face coverings while outside their homes to help slow the spread of the coronavirus, including a solid majority of Republicans. That's according to a new poll from The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research. Support for wearing masks is overwhelming among Democrats, while 58% of Republicans say they back such policies. As coronavirus cases rise, about half of Americans now say they're extremely or very worried about themselves or family members becoming infected. Earth and Mars have elliptical, or egg-shaped, paths around the sun; meaning the distance between the two planets widens and narrows as they orbit.However, even being millions of miles away, the “close approach,” as NASA calls it, will allow an opportunity to see Mars without a telescope. Mars was at its brightest on October 6, and is slowly getting farther away.Mars will appear very bright in the sky during this time as it’s close to earth. NASA says it is more like the size of a star than the moon, a very bright star.If clouds or other distractions block the view of Mars this week, there will be another chance to see the red planet in December 2022.
