"But innocent people have been dying for the past eight years. So to us, especially the Kurds, this was a positive."Most of Salih's family has fled to Europe, trekking weeks at a time with little to eat."Everyday we're concerned that we're not going to hear from (my aunt) anymore, so every day that I hear her voice is a relief that they're still alive."Salih says she hopes her aunt will be able to come to the U.S. Someday.She also hopes that U.S. involvement will open the eyes of the rest of the world, making them realize that atrocities are happening in her home country. "I do appreciate being here," she said. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A woman was killed after a collision with a tree that split the car she was driving in two in the Carmel Mountain Ranch area.According to San Diego police, the driver, who has yet to be identified, was traveling on Carmel Mountain Road at an unknown speed when she lost control of the vehicle and hit a tree.Police said a passerby spotted the wreckage round 1:15 a.m. Wednesday, but it's unclear when the crash occurred.No other injuries were reported. 480

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Airbnb is warning would-be party-goers this Halloween that weekend parties at San Diego listings are banned and guests could face legal action if they violate the policy.The rental booking platform banned parties at all of its listings in August and capped occupancy at 16 people as a precaution due to the pandemic. Airbnb has also banned one-night reservations over the Halloween weekend across the country."The great majority of guests are respectful of our hosts’ homes and neighbors, and we understand that this initiative will disrupt many one-night reservations that might not have led to parties. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A U.S. Marine stationed at MCAS Miramar has tested presumptive positive for coronavirus after returning from leave in Washington state.The Marine was returning to the base from leave in Washington state where he was visiting family, which is where officials believe he contracted the virus, officials on base familiar with the matter told 10News.A high level source in the military added that the Marine was tested on base for the virus after feeling ill and placed into quarantine while results were pending. The Marine is currently at home under quarantine, off base, that source added.A second Marine who returned from leave in Washington with the first service member is currently considered a person under investigation at Camp Pendleton. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - An Oceanside woman says she was left feeling violated after her car was stolen from the Porto Vista Hotel's valet in Little Italy. "I had to leave some of my things in my car, like my work computer, some of my personal items that were expensive and personal, but I trusted they would be ok because it was a valet service at the hotel," said Ashley Holthaus, whose car was stolen. Her friend had a room at the hotel, and their group of friends went to a concert at San Diego State that evening. "The next morning, around 6:30 a.m. I got up and walked over to the valet and gave him my ticket and at that point, he looked for my keys and couldn't find my keys or record of my car being at the hotel."Holthaus says the next few hours were extremely stressful as staff tried to figure out what happened. She says she was asked to wait to call police until they had a better idea of what happened.Holthaus was eventually shown surveillance footage. She describes seeing a tall man in a hoodie walk up to the unattended valet kiosk, take her keys, walk straight to her car, and drive out of the parking garage. "Why am I paying for a service and then have something like this happen and then there's no accountability from the hotel?" said Holthaus.Her company's IT department was able to track the computer which was in the car; she says it was located out of the country.Holthaus says to make matters worse, the hotel charged her for the valet and did not offer to compensate her friend for the room.An attorney for the hotel tells 10News there hasn't been an incident like this in Porto Vista's 30 years of operation. The attorney says they've turned over surveillance to police and are cooperating with the investigation. He added that management is taking measure to ensure this doesn't happen again.
