A dire warning from the National Weather Service has forced an evacuation around the College Lake Dam in Lynchburg, Virginia.A flash flood warning issued Thursday night by the NWS reports "if a complete failure of the dam occurs, the water depth at Lynchburg could exceed 17 feet in 7 minutes." The area impacted would be the city of Lynchburg, which is one mile downstream from the dam.An updated report issued just after midnight by the NWS said the dam has not failed, and is being closely monitored by emergency personnel for any signs of structural failure."Lynchburg Water Resources Department reported that 4 to 6 inches of heavy rain earlier in the evening caused College Lake to fill beyond its capacity.Piper Van dePerre, with the Lynchburg Department of Emergency Services, told CNN affiliate WDBJ that crews are working with a list of 124 residences that need to be evacuated because of the imminent threat of a dam break. A chalk art controversy at Cleveland State University is getting national attention online.A group of students created a memorial for the victims of 9/11 on the sidewalks outside the CSU student center. On the morning of the somber anniversary, the university's maintenance crew removed the murals with a power washer.Now CSU and the head of its maintenance department are getting blasted on social media. The comments and reaction have not been good.But what is being lost in the online outrage is that this form of expression is actually not allowed on campus.CSU sophomore Tiffany Roberts pointed out the streaks of color that remain on the sidewalk outside the CSU Student Center Wednesday."So right here, we had two twin towers and it said 'pause,'" said Roberts.She was standing near her project on the morning of Sept. 11 when a crew showed up with a power washer."It was really disheartening to see all of our hard work kind of wash away like that," said Roberts.Roberts, along with nearly a dozen of her classmates, are members of a conservative campus group."Our whole intention was to just honor those people," said Donato Nunez.On Sunday night, they used chalk to pay their respects to the victims of 9/11."I looked through the handbook to make sure it was OK for me to chalk on campus," said Roberts.Roberts told WEWS she didn't see anything about chalk."The only thing I found was that you are not allowed to attach anything to the sidewalks or the pavements," said Roberts.Monday morning, the CSU Director of Facilities Management, who also happens to be Muslim, sent a crew out to wash the artwork away.A handful of conservative websites, along with social media, quickly erupted with outrage, alleging that it may have been politically motivated. "Absolutely disgusted by this!" wrote one Facebook user. A former teacher at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional School near Shamokin, Pa. was fired last week after she told the principal she is pregnant and not married.Naiad Reich and her boyfriend Matt Graboski are expecting their first child together. It's supposed to be a happy time for the couple who live near Shamokin. Instead, Reich was fired from her teaching job at a Catholic school because the couple is not married.Reich and Graboski are expecting their first child next summer."I'm extremely excited," Graboski said. "It's one of the most rewarding things you can possibly go through."Recently, that excitement has been overshadowed. For the past two years, Reich was a high school teacher at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional School, a Catholic school near Shamokin.Last week, she told the principal she was pregnant."It was very apparent that she was not happy with the circumstances. Of course, her problem was Catholic morals," said Reich.She said the principal's concern was that the couple are not married. The Diocese of Harrisburg had questions."If there's no eventual plan in the near future to get married, it was either that or I had to be let go," Reich said.Reich didn't want to be fired and understands the Catholic morality code. The couple also wants to get married on their own terms. Reich lost her job last Friday.A spokesperson for the diocese said, "The Diocese of Harrisburg is unable to comment on personnel matters. However, as outlined in our policies, every professional employee agrees to follow the teachings, doctrine, and laws of the Catholic Church as part of the hiring process."Despite all of that, Reich and Graboski have no ill will towards Our Lady of Lourdes Regional School or the Diocese of Harrisburg."This is their beliefs and their moral code and what they live by and I understand that.
