SAN MARCOS, Calif. (KGTV) -- San Marcos Unified School District teachers and parents flooded the school board meeting Tuesday night asking for the board to come to a contract agreement with their union. The meeting was standing room only. Union officials say they've been without a contract since last June and that they've tried to negotiate with the district. They're fighting for higher pay and smaller class sizes and getting all of these things in writing. There was no item on the agenda at Tuesday's meeting but the superintendent did address the teachers and parents directly during a presentation. Dr. Garcia told the crowd she hears them and appreciates them being present at the meeting but told them the issue with the union's request is a lack of adequate funding at the state level. SAN YSIDRO (CNS) - Police have little to go on today in the case of a 19-year-old who was shot in San Ysidro, authorities said.According to the teen, he was standing on the street by himself around 11:50 p.m. Saturday when it happened, said Officer Robert Heims of the San Diego Police Department.``He heard his name called,'' Heims said. ``He then heard several shots and felt pain to his back.''The victim fell to the ground, Heims said.He wasn't able to provide police with any other information about what happened.The teen was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.Police ask anyone with information to contact the SDPD Southern Division at 619-424-0400 or Crime Stoppers at 1-888-580-8477. 726

(KGTV) -- Dozens of migrants seeking asylum in the United States are being processed Tuesday afternoon, according to an attorney.Eight migrants were allowed in for processing Monday night followed by dozens more Tuesday afternoon and evening. The rest of the migrant caravan is waiting in Tijuana to be allowed in and processed. The attorney, who is working with the group of migrants, said members of the caravan were asked to choose among themselves who would be processed.MAP: Where is the migrant caravan from?Women and children were reportedly in the first groups of migrants selected Monday and Tuesday. An official with U.S. Customs and Border Protection said that, although this group of migrants has been gaining national attention, the process the group is going through is standard.As far as the process the migrants are going through, CBP said that individuals who don’t have proper travel documents and try to enter into the U.S. may be subject to expedited removal.PHOTOS: Migrant caravan makes way to U.S-Mexico borderThose in expedited removal who express fear of return are then referred to United States Citizenship and Immigration Services.Migrants then go through a “fear interview” to determine whether or not they have a credible fear of persecution or torture.The San Ysidro border inspection facility can hold 300 people. At times, this has required us to limit the number of people we can bring in the port facility for processing at a given time, including in 2016 when an influx of Haitians arrived at the California border, and as recently as within the past six months. In recent days, San Ysidro has exceeded port capacity due to an increase in arrivals of undocumented persons making asylum claims or presenting complex cases. Accordingly, CBP has had to limit the number of new arrivals for processing. SAN MARCOS, Calif. (KGTV) -- A San Marcos school is in mourning after their principal died suddenly over the weekend. According to a statement sent to 10News by the San Marcos Unified School District, Carrie Geldard, Principal of Discovery Elementary died over the weekend. The cause wasn’t immediately clear. “She served the SMUSD community in a variety of capacities over the last 22 years including teacher, assistant principal and principal. Carrie was fiercely passionate about developing the whole child, while also emphasizing literacy and ensuring that every student was successful and prepared for the future of their dreams,” the district said in part. In response to the death, the district says crisis response teams were sent to support students and staff. “We extend our deepest sympathies to Carrie’s family, the Discovery Elementary community and the San Marcos Unified School District community,” the district continued. 946
