A mother whose toddler died weeks after they were released from a Texas immigrant detention center has filed a wrongful death claim seeking million from the US government.Yazmin Juarez's 19-month-old daughter, Mariee, died in May, six weeks after they were released from the immigration facility in Dilley.Juarez and her attorney allege that ICE and those running the facility provided substandard medical care for the toddler after she suffered a respiratory infection while in detention."The US government had a duty to provide this little girl with safe, sanitary living conditions and proper medical care but they failed to do that resulting in tragic consequences," attorney R. Stanton Jones said in a statement."Mariee entered Dilley a healthy baby girl and 20 days later was discharged a gravely ill child with a life-threatening respiratory infection. A Mississippi school district has apologized and a high school band director has been suspended after the band staged a halftime skit that depicted police being held at gunpoint.The controversial skit came as the Forest Hill High School band from Jackson performed Friday during a football game against Brookhaven High School to the south. It shocked many at the game in Brookhaven, where just six days earlier two police officers were killed in a shootout with a suspect."I was sad because of what happened last weekend, and it felt like they were making fun of it," Sarah McDonald, a Brookhaven High School student, told CNN affiliate WJTV. 650

A metro Detroit restaurant is defending a viral video showing a brawl inside the Asian Corned Beef on Gratiot.An employee told Scripps station WXYZ in Detroit she was scared when things quickly got out of hand but says her boss and general manager did what they had to do.It’s a video that’s been viewed more than a million times. It was taken on a cell phone inside the Asian Corned Beef on Gratiot Saturday night.WXYZ reached out to the customer who shot the video. The customer did not feel safe talking, but we that we could use the video. The customer shared the video in Facebook, saying “Asian corn beef on Gratiot ghetto, the whole staff jumped on one person.”The video appears to show a customer arguing with employees, apparently because something was wrong with his order, before an all out fight breaks out.The district manager said they didn’t want to start fighting with the customer and told him to leave.It’s an incident the company said quickly escalated and they didn’t mean for it to get that far.The company said they told police they didn’t want to file a police report, and say they hope this incident doesn’t put a negative light on the restaurant. 1209

A police department in Arkansas has apologized for sharing a misleading warning about the danger of opioids on its Facebook page."The post about the fentanyl was sent so me from another officer at another Department," the Leachville Police Department wrote on Facebook Thursday. "I simply shared it. I’m should have checked into it further before I posted it. Sorry for the confusion."The Leachville Police Department warned residents to wipe down shopping carts before using them to protect against the dangers of fentanyl, a powerful opioid. "Fentanyl or something like that still on their hands and they touch that cart handle and then you do, it can get into your system," the department originally posted on Facebook. "Scary but worth taking the time to clean the handle. All you'd have to do is rub your nose or touch your child's mouth. I never even considered this possibility. Children being exposed to just the powder or residue is a bad situation that can turn deadly."While a police officer in Ohio recently claimed ot have overdosed on fentanyl by simply touching the substance, some experts dispute the officer's claim.According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, opioids killed more than 33,000 people in 2015.
