(KGTV) -- The Coronado Unified School District is mourning the loss of one of their most popular crossing guards. Bruce Campbell, or Mr. Bruce as the kids knew him, passed away on Monday. According to his brother, Bruce was at work Monday when he collapsed and had to be rushed to the hospital. Campbell went into cardiac arrest and passed away on his way to the hospital. Students and parents set up a memorial on the corner of Sixth and F Street, where he worked every day for the last several years. His brother tells 10News he died doing the job he loved most. In a statement, the district told the Coronado Times that school counselors will be working with students as needed. Bruce Campbell was 68 years old.  770

Cliff Robinson, a former UConn star and longtime top sixth man in the NBA, has died. His death was confirmed by UConn. No cause of death was given, though former Huskies coach Jim Calhoun said Robinson had a stroke 2 1/2 years ago. Nicknamed Uncle Cliffy, Robinson played 18 seasons in the NBA and helped the Portland Trail Blazers reach two NBA Finals. Before that, he was the centerpiece of Calhoun’s early teams at UConn. Robinson was the NBA’s Sixth Man of the Year in 1993 and made his lone All-Star appearance the following year. Cliff Robinson was 53. 566

CINCINNATI -- While their fellow incoming college students enjoyed Freshman Welcome Week, Natalie Vasu and Kiley Hatfield spent much of their first week at the University of Cincinnati sitting inside at Turner Schneider Hall. Their new dorm room had a broken shower head, broken locks and a thermostat on the fritz, and at least one person needed to be around to greet the repair teams who came to fix them.Those issues were irritating but all had quick solutions, Vasu said. The mold they discovered near four outlets in the room didn't."There were water dripping stains down the outlet," Vasu said. "We're lucky when we went and plugged things in that nothing caught fire or went wrong."The university immediately removed the girls -- Vasu, Hatfield and their two roommates -- from their room and offered them new rooms. Separate ones. Hatfield said she and Vasu were determined to stay together, and after hours of begging, the university agreed to put them up in a hotel as a pair. It's still a short-term fix. The girls don't know what their long-term living situation might be."We don't have a permanent option," Hatfield said. "We have no idea where we're supposed to go."M.B. Reilly, the university's director of public relations, said staff have worked to quickly address all of the issues Hatfield and Vasu raised. The malfunctioning thermostat was replaced within days; the broken shower head was replaced the same Saturday morning they reported it.They will continue to work with the pair to find an acceptable place for them to live."In support of our students, university staff will personally be reviewing alternative UC housing options with them and their parents shortly," Reilly said in a statement.She added no other students in their building had experienced comparable issues. 1820

Cristina Schaffer was behind the lens as a professional photographer for 17 years, but the images she captured after COVID-19 are unlike anything she took before."I took out my biggest lens, I was about 20 feet away she opened up her door and had words writing on her hand and she was such a bright light totally happy," Cristina described of a woman she photographed from behind a window who was battling stage 4 breast cancer.It's all part of her 'front porch portrait' collection."They come to front porch and I just direct them from there. Each shoot's about 10 minutes unless its a big family."Cristina started the project after COVID-19 forced everyone in."It was like 'let's take photos and capture a moment in time' and this moment in time is crazy unprecedented and I think that's what attracts people."The photos were all taken from a distance. "I let everyone know masks signs props are all welcome they can come out in their pajamas or they can dress up to the nines whatever they want I'm just there to capture them on their front porchHer fee was a donation. COSTA MESA, Calif. (AP) — A judge has put on hold a U.S. plan to quarantine up to 50 people infected with a new virus from China in a Southern California city. Costa Mesa officials asked for a court to intervene Friday after learning that federal authorities planned to move patients to facility in the city as early as Sunday. They said they were not included in the planning effort and wanted to know how the local community would be protected from the possible spread of the virus that has spread globally. The judge has issued a temporary restraining order and has scheduled a hearing for Monday. 609
