After dozens of puppies were found in rural Pottawattamie County, Iowa with no food and water before being rescued Sunday, authorities ramped up their investigation into Young Gunz Kennel. They obtained a search warrant and confiscated items for several hours Tuesday.Sheriff deputies and animal control personnel hauled away a large number of kennels that were at the unlicensed facility, which was used for obedience and hunting training, as well as dog breeding. Investigators could also be seen snapping photos and collecting additional evidence that they could find at the site, which housed as many as 50 dogs before many of them were found inside their kennels severely malnourished. A total of four dogs have now been found dead, and 10 are missing.Copper was one of the dogs that was rescued on Sunday. When his owner Wil Beach picked him up, Copper had lost 20 pounds and was covered in feces. "He was very scared but still in high spirits, he was the same dog emotionally when I got him (back) than when I dropped him off,” says Beach.Beach says he took Copper and a 0 check to owner Dustin Young in January after high praises from friends. He says he did not suspect anything amiss when he made the drop-off. "When I was there it was neat and clean and organized and he was very talkative and he just seemed like he had a passion for dogs," says Beach.Beach is thankful that his two-year old pup is okay, with no major issues from the abandonment.  1500

ALPINE, Calif. (KGTV) — Kevin Coleman feels a range of emotions when he steps foot onto the land in Alpine he used to call home. He and his wife Monica lost two houses on the property during the July 2018 West Fire. "Disappointing, heartache, anxiety, stress, how do you rebuild?" he says. The 22-acre parcel in Alpine has the remnants of the two houses, while a third home on the property is rented out. Meanwhile, the Colemans are living with other family. "We've exhausted the little bit of insurance money that we got to do the debris removal, the cleanup," Kevin says. "We had to take care of trees and all the damage on the property." About 60 homes burned in the West Fire, a number of them still not rebuilt. Looking for any solution, Monica began calling contractors she'd worked with in the past. She found her answer sitting in a San Diego storage yard near Oak Park. That's where the city had been storing a historic home since a 2014 legal settlement with The Academy of Our Lady of Peace. As part of the settlement, the city was forced to remove two historic homes from Normal Heights to make way for the school to expand. It had one remaining in the yard, and agreed to sell it to the Colemans for . Monica mailed the city a signed contract with a bill Thursday. The only catch: The family must keep the home's historic character. "I was very shocked, and bawled my eyes out when they said, we're going to sell you this house for a dollar," Monica said. The next steps, however, are costly. Kevin says a contractor quoted the family ,000 to move the home to their land in Alpine. It will also cost about ,000 in labor to make the home habitable. A City of San Diego spokesman says no other homes are available. 1744

Adam Levine is not giving up a great deal about reports that Maroon 5 will be performing at the next Super Bowl halftime show."I'm still formulating a lot of things," he told Variety in a recent interview.Reaction had been mixed to early reports the group would headline the halftime show. The NFL has not officially confirmed the entertainment lineup for the next Super Bowl."It's a Super Bowl tradition to speculate about the performers for the Pepsi Halftime Show," a league rep said in a statement earlier this fall. "We are continuing to work with (longtime sponsor) Pepsi on our plans but do not have any announcements to make on what will be another epic show."Levine was more open with the publication about getting superstar rapper Cardi B to record a verse on the hit Maroon 5 single, "Girls Like You.""I told Cardi, 'I want you to put something down that shows your fierceness as a woman and say it however you want,'" Levine said. "I knew she was going to murder this verse and bring the song to a whole new place. She was vital. I begged her to do it." 1077

Although colleges have put rules in place to help stop the spread of the coronavirus, some students have chosen not to follow them and have instead gathered at parties, bars and dorms.“An enormous part of going to college is the social experiences and the social awakening and the independence of moving away from home, and those two components are really inconsistent with living in quarantine,” said Ben Locke, Senior Director for Counseling and Psychological Services at Penn State University.Locke says at this stage in brain development, teenagers are more wired to take risks in lieu of social benefits. Just like adults, they're impacted by mixed messages from government officials.Younger people also don't have any prior experience with this kind of global event.“The decision that you make is not about necessarily your safety. It's about other people's safety, and the consequences of a bad decision on your part might not be known to the person next to you for ten days,” said Locke. “It's really easy to be lulled into thinking everything's fine.”Locke says most students he's talked with want to make this work and are frustrated with others putting them at risk.He thinks schools can help by encouraging everyone to work together to stay on campus and punishing students who don't follow the rules. 1321

After a record drought that featured no major (Category 3-5) hurricane landfalls in the United States, 2017 roared to life, reminding everyone how powerful and destructive these monster storms can be.The drought lasted more than a decade and ended with not one, but three major hurricanes striking US soil: Harvey, Irma and Maria. Those three storms all rank among the top five costliest in history. With the 2017 season still fresh on the minds of many coastal residents, the question is: What will 2018 bring? 518
