A member of the Proud Boys, a far-right group, is under arrest and facing nearly a dozen charges in Portland. The charges allege Alan Swinney pointed a revolver at counterprotesters and fired a paintball gun and mace at them on two separate occasions in August.Swinney, who is scheduled for a court appearance Thursday, was charged in a secret indictment Sept. 11 but not arrested until Wednesday.“In summary, the indictment alleges that Swinney used a paintball gun on August 15, 2020 to cause physical injury to another person,” the statement from the Multnomah County District Attorney’s office said.“Further, the indictment alleges that Swinney used a paintball gun on August 22, 2020 to once again cause physical injury to another person; that he also carried and then pointed a revolver at someone which placed that person in fear of imminent serious physical injury and that he unlawfully discharged mace or a similar substance toward another person.”Swinney remained in custody Wednesday and it wasn’t immediately clear if he had retained an attorney or would be assigned a public defender. 1106

A Pennsylvania woman is mourning the loss of her 12-year-old after claiming that the dog was mauled last week by another dog during a grooming appointment at a PetSmart, WNEP-TV reported. Betty Miller of Scranton told WNEP that after dropping off her dog named Bichon Brewster at PetSmart's grooming salon, she got a call from a veterinarian, who delivered the awful news. Brewster was killed after getting attacked by another dog.After the mauling, Brewster was taken to the Veterinary Referral and Emergency Center, but was dead on arrival. The veterinarians told WNEP that it attempted resuscitation, but failed. Now, Miller is wanting answers as to why this happened. "We called corporate," Miller told WNEP. "They did not reach out to us, and I was very angry about that. Why would you want to bring a pit bull past a small dog who's really just bait? A North Carolina pastor who led a march to the polls over the weekend that ended with police pepper-spraying participants says he will lead another march on Election Day.On Saturday, Rev. Greg Drumwright led the "I Am Change" march in Graham, North Carolina, from a local AME Church to the Alamance County Courthouse.According to the Raleigh News & Observer, the march included a moment of silence for George Floyd, who was killed during an arrest in Minnesota this summer and whose death sparked a nationwide protest movement against police brutality.Following that moment of silence, the News & Observer reports that deputies and police officers used pepper spray on the crowd and began arresting participants. At least one journalist covering the event was arrested.Some participants told the News & Observer that they were given little warning as to the officer's decision to shut down the event. The Associated Press reports that Graham Police say they issued several warnings to the crowd to move from the roadway before releasing pepper spraying and later arresting eight people.On Sunday, Drumwright confirmed in a TV interview that he intends to finish the march on Election Day. A tiger and panther cub pair was seized at the Tijuana Airport Tuesday. Both are safe an in custody. Officials say the cubs were found inside a wooden box with no documentation. Both were sent from the State of Mexico, but officials say their final destination is unclear. This isn't the first time a tiger cub has been taken in. Last August a tiger cub was seized from a car at the border by Customs and Border Protection officers. That cub has been under the care of the San Diego Zoo Safari Park.  528

A teacher's assistant handbook is causing some controversy at the University of Maryland. The handbook was meant for Computer Science TA's and had separate instructions for both men and women. Now, some people are saying the comments made inside are sexist.It tells the women their students may have trouble accepting they are in the scientific field because it's a male associated activity. The handbook continues to say this is good practice for the real world because students may not be the only ones having trouble accepting women as a professional. 607
