(KGTV) - Solana Beach is one of San Diego County's most expensive places to live, but it has no affordable housing.Now, the City Council may pursue turning a part of the City Hall parking lot into a 19-unit mixed-use affordable housing complex. The council could vote Wednesday to issue a request for proposals for development of the site, with the hopes of selecting a company to build it by September. City Hall, by the way, is across the street from steps that lead to its famous beaches. "It'd be like winning the lottery," said Christian McDonough, one of the hundreds of people who work in Solana Beach's tourist-facing businesses, but can't afford to live there. "If you're in the service industry, you're most likely not living in Solana Beach."This would be the city's second attempt to add affordable housing. In 2014, the council approved a 10-unit complex called The Pearl, down the block from City Hall. LOUIS — A St. Louis couple facing felony charges for waving guns at racial injustice protesters who marched near their home allege in a lawsuit that a news photographer trespassed to capture an image of the confrontation.The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that Mark and Patricia McCloskey, lawyers in their 60s, filed the lawsuit Friday in St. Louis Circuit Court against United Press International photographer Bill Greenblatt and the wire service.At issue was a protest on June 28, when a few hundred marchers veered onto the private street near the McCloskeys’ .15 million home in St. Louis’ posh Central West End area.Mark McCloskey emerged with an AR-15 rifle and his wife displayed a semiautomatic handgun. The incident sparked international intention and was shared widely online.Newspaper photographers are allowed to take images from public streets, sidewalks or alleys. The McCloskeys have argued that protesters were trespassing because they live on a private street.The McCloskeys are also suing Redbubble, an online custom retail website. The couple says Redbubble users have been selling merchandise that includes the UPI photo without their consent.The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported last month that the UPI was considering sending a cease-and-desist to the McCloskeys after they used the image on a set of greeting cards.The McCloskeys, known for being litigious, delivered a virtual address at the 2020 Republican National Convention. 1468

Smash Mouth says they've received hate mail from fans after taking part in a concert during an event that's since been linked to the spread of more than 100 cases of COVID-19.The band performed an Aug. 9 concert at the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally in South Dakota in front of a closely-grouped crowd. Many of those in attendance were not wearing masks. During the performance, lead singer Steve Harwell was heard saying, "f*** that Covid s***."In the weeks since the event, at least 103 cases of COVID-19 have been linked directly to the Sturgis rally. Six teenagers are walking to Memphis, Tennessee, on a symbolic journey to honor the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr., the civil rights hero who was assassinated at the Lorraine Motel in Memphis, on April 4, 1968.Their march, which started on Highway 61 near Dundee, Mississippi, is 50 miles long -- one for each year since King was killed.Five of the participants -- JaQuon Ohara, Damonte' Steele, Cameron Allison, Davonta Pate and Raphael Williams -- are black. Benjamin Rutledge is white.Aged 14 to 19, they are all from Pearl and Richland, Mississippi."Our hope is to not only honor all that Dr. King achieved, but to be part of continuing his work," said Jarvis Ward, organizer of the trek and president of Pearson Foundation, a community service organization based in Pearl, Mississippi."We want to show how racial justice, economic justice and racial reconciliation can be advanced in and by the next generation."Along the way, the teenagers are discussing "civil rights and justice issues and model reconciliation and healthy racial relations" with the help of two adult mentors who are also walking with them, a press release said. SPRING VALLEY (KGTV) - San Diego County Sheriff's Department deputies are investigating a Spring Valley stabbing that left one man dead and a woman injured.Deputies responded to calls about a stabbing just before midnight Friday at an apartment complex at 3560 James Circle, said Lt. Thomas Seiver of the San Diego County Sheriff's Department.First responders rushed a man to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly after his arrival, Seiver said.
