MILWAUKEE -- Six cars were damaged Friday when light poles fell across traffic lanes on I-43 near Milwaukee.According to the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office, the driver of a red pick-up truck heading northbound hit both of the light poles in the median just before 3:30 p.m. A witness at a law firm off Hampton Avenue said she saw the truck drive up onto the median and hit one pole, before continuing on to hit a second. "Unfortunately one of them kind of struck the side of the car, put a hole in the door, took a mirror out," said Jim Lovering, whose daughter called him after swerving to avoid the two poles.Lovering's 7-month-old grandson was also in the car. "Just missed the windshield, which was a blessing," said Lovering. The camera caught deputies taking away the driver of the red truck in handcuffs. Authorities have not yet released any information confirming an arrest, or possible charges. The accident caused backups for miles during rush hour, as crews worked to remove the poles from the roadway. No one in any of the cars was injured. "It was just nice that she had the space to maneuver and without hitting anybody else or causing any further damage," said Lovering. "It could be potentially you know a serious accident. Thank God it didn't happen."  1341

MILWAUKEE — A new lawsuit claims Facebook promoted conspiracy theories among the members of militia groups and is responsible for a series of shootings in Kenosha that left protesters dead in the days following the shooting of Jacob Blake.Four people, including the partner of one of the victims killed in the shooting, filed the lawsuit Tuesday against Facebook, members of two militia groups and Kyle Rittenhouse, the 17-year-old accused of killing two protesters.The lawsuit filed in the federal court of the Eastern District of Wisconsin alleges Facebook failed to delete two groups — the Kenosha Guards and the Boogaloo Bois — before the allegedly racist and hateful content led dozens of armed counter-protesters to Kenosha, including Rittenhouse."These calls to arms, as one might infer, are not met with the responsible consideration of concerned citizens, but by violent, racist rhetoric in which militia members promise to shoot protesters, their desire to literally kill people displayed publicly for all to see," the lawsuit alleges.The lawsuit argues that Facebook's algorithm allows content from such militia groups to spread rapidly. The suit also argues the algorithm allowed Kenosha Guards' content to be picked up by conspiracy website InfoWars, which wrote an article on the group's call to arms.The lawsuit adds Rittenhouse answered that call to arms and drove across state lines from Illinois to Kenosha with a long gun. Under the command of militia member Ryan Balch — who is named as a defendant in the suit — Rittenhouse later independently shot the three protesters, according to the lawsuit.Rittenhouse is also listed as a defendant in the lawsuit.Facebook received over 400 complaints and flags concerning the Kenosha Guards page and the content it was posting, according to the lawsuit. It alleges that the social network did not attempt to take the page down until after the shooting occurred. In fact, Kevin Mathewson, the creator of the Kenosha Guards page, removed the group himself, the suit alleges.Mathewson is also among those listed as a defendant in the lawsuit."More importantly, Facebook continues to provide militias with the tools to further their violent conspiracies, at a time when we are entering into an election period in which the President of the United States — who openly supports the activities of these militias, while insulting Black Lives Matter and other racial justice protesters — has declared his intent to contest the forthcoming election," the lawsuit reads.The lawsuit cites several causes of action, including conspiracy to interfere with civil rights, action for neglect to prevent, negligence, civil conspiracy, intentional and negligent infliction of emotional distress, among other causes.The lawsuit calls for the injunctive relief enjoining Defendants from future violations of plaintiffs' rights guaranteed under federal and state law, as well as damages determined during a trial.The plaintiffs in the lawsuit include:Hannah Gittings, partner of Anthony Huber, who was fatally shot by RittenhouseChristopher McNeal, a Black man who says he was assaulted by militia membersCarmen Palmer, a Black woman who says she was attacked by militia members when she traveled to Kenosha to protestNathan Peet, a local journalist who witnessed Rittenhouse allegedly shoot the first victimThe lawsuit was filed on behalf of the Plaintiffs by Jason Flores-Williams and Jennifer D. MURRIETA, Calif. (KGTV) -- One second she was getting the all-clear to go into the home, and the next the walls crumbled around her. A mother trapped inside when a Murrieta home when it exploded says there’s only one reason she made it out alive. "I just saw everything crashing down around me, and I thought I was dead, I thought that was it,” said Alexis Haaland, who was inside home when it blew up. Looking at the house Tuesday, Haaland says she’s still in shock she walked away from the explosion with only a few scratches. "I just stood still and I covered my head and I was screaming oh my god, just hoping nothing hit me."Haaland was having solar panels installed at the home she lived in with her family for about a month. She says the solar company told her they hit a gas line and that she should probably leave. She took her two kids and put them outside with her mother and little brother in their van. Haaland says a firefighter told her she could go back in and get her wallet and diaper bag. That’s when the home exploded. "I just knew I had to get out, and I ran to my mom and my kids and my mom just looked at me and was like how did you get out of there."Haaland says she got out through a window that was shattered in the blast. She says she was standing by a wall, the only one left standing after the home exploded. "I'm really shook up still, having a couple panic attacks and stuff, but I'm alive, and that's all that really matters."Haaland says she’s thankful that her kids were outside the home. She says the moments after the explosion were tough, adding that her thoughts are with the man killed in the explosion and those who were injured. "There wasn't much sleep last night. Pretty much any loud noise woke me up."The family says the community has stepped up and offered to help them after they lost everything in the blast. 1865

More than seventy years ago, U.S. soldier Robert Maynard lost a small leather pouch on a beach in Italy while serving in World War II. Neatly tucked away inside that pouch were a family rosary and a small note with details on who the pouch belonged to.“I remember him saying at one point that his only regret was the fact that he had lost the rosary and it was his mom's and it was a special rosary," Robert's son, Tim Maynard, said. "It had a relic inside of it. And that kept him safe and alive that whole time."His father deployed from England and was one of the thousands of soldiers to make the trek across the English Channel during World War II.“He landed on D-Day, plus two on Normandy beach,” Maynard said.Robert Maynard was 19 years old and had the rosary on him just 52 days after D-Day while fighting to liberate France.“He remembers getting shot, he remembers falling forward in knocking out a couple of his teeth," Tim Maynard said, recalling one of the few stories his father told about the war. "And then his partner, Joe, saved him and took about two or three steps away from after that, and was shot himself.”Joseph Driscoll of Buffalo, New York, died that day. Tim’s father would head off for recovery back in England.“He owed everything to Joe,” Maynard said.It’s not clear when Robert Maynard traveled to Italy. The one thing that is clear is the leather pouch made it from the beach in Italy to Mt. Orab, Ohio, by catching a ride with another soldier – Charles Werley – who stumbled across it.“My mother, she was probably in her 80s," Werley's daughter, Gail Tucker, said. "She gave it to me and told me that my father had found it during World War II in Italy on a beach."Charles Werley brought it home and had plans to try to find its owner. Inside the leather cover was a piece of paper with the name of the soldier, Robert Maynard. Tucker said life got in the way and one thing after another seemed to delay the process.Though it’s not clear on which beach the pouch was found, the biggest clue the family had was a chunk of the Leaning Tower of Pisa, a white piece of marble taken by Werley during a visit to Pisa Province.“He said he stuck his bayonet in like a hole in it and got him a chunk of it,” said Phillip Werley, Charles Werley’s son.In May of 2020, Gail Tucker emailed WCPO asking for help in tracking down the rightful owner or at least the family of the soldier.“I’m hoping they can be found because it’s really a unique piece, I think as a family heirloom,” Tucker said. “It’s time; it’s past time.”The piece of paper inside the pouch was a huge lead -- Robert Maynard's name to go off of to start the search. However, family members listening to attempts to contact them thought it was a scam, perhaps trying to profit somehow off the now-deceased Robert Maynard.“He's probably gotten together with Gail's father, up in heaven or wherever they may be. And said to each other, 'Hey, we got to get this thing back to the family,'" Tim Maynard said. "'So you put a nudge into your daughter. I'll put a nudge into my son to not be afraid to take a call from a mysterious anchor from Cincinnati, and go from there.'"The rosary beads belonged to Tim Maynard's grandmother. She gave them to Robert to carry for protection during the war.While his father is gone, Tim said, having the rosary back in the family is extra special.“It's just amazing to have something, you know, that was with him through those times. Back in hand,” he said. “Years and years and years have passed since he touched them. MILWAUKEE, Wisc. — Milwaukee County voters will be asked about legalizing marijuana this November after the County Board of Supervisors approved a referendum question on a 15-1 vote Thursday morning.The non-binding, advisory referendum on the November ballot would ask voters how they feel about approving the sale, usage and taxation of recreational marijuana.The official question, proposed by County Supervisor John F. Weishan, would ask if people approve of allowing adults 21 and older to  "engage in the personal use of marijuana, while also regulating commercial marijuana-related activities, and imposing a tax on the sale of marijuana."The measure had previously passed the committee stage on a 5-0 vote.Ten?states allow recreational marijuana usage — Washington, Oregon, California, Nevada, Colorado, Alaska, Vermont Massachusetts and Maine, a list that doesn't include Midwestern states.According to a October 2017 Gallup poll, nearly 64 percent of American's support the legalization of marijuana--up from 50 percent in 2010. In a July 2016 poll done by the Marquette University Law School, 59 percent of Wisconsin voters believed marijuana should be legalized and regulated like alcohol. In terms of profit, a big focus of the referendum, legalized marijuana is a multi-billion dollar industry and is expected to be as valuable as billion in 2025.? 1408
