BEIJING, Oct. 15 (Xinhua) -- China will take measures to boost economic and social development in Tibetan regions in four provinces, according to a notice about a meeting chaired by Premier Wen Jiabao.     Wednesday's executive meeting of the State Council, the country's Cabinet, discussed how to support development in the Tibetan regions of Qinghai, Sichuan, Yunnan and Gansu provinces.     Tibetan regions in these areas are autonomous where Tibetans and people of other nationalities live together. The regions are the important plateau ecological barrier that cover the head-stream area of major rivers, such as the Yellow, Yangtze and Lancang.     The ecological environment in these areas are fragile with natural disasters occurring frequently. Infrastructure remained less developed, which hindered the development in these areas, the meeting said.     Measures should be taken to protect and build the ecological environment and improve people's living standard in these areas, and to make the income of urban and rural residents approach or reach the average level in western China by 2012 and approach national average by 2020.     Moreover, public services including education, public health and medical services should be improved in these areas, and infrastructure construction should be carried out to better support development.

BEIJING, Oct. 21 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao on Tuesday spoke over phone with his U.S. counterpart George W. Bush about international cooperation to cope with the ongoing global financial turmoil.     The leaders exchanged ideas about the planned international financial summits and strengthening international cooperation to stabilize the financial markets.     Bush said the United States hopes to make joint efforts with the international community to seek measures to overcome the crisis and maintain the stability of the world economy.     Hu, for his part, said China has noted the efforts made by the U.S. government to stabilize the domestic financial market. He expressed hope that the measures would take effect as soon as possible, restore investor confidence and prevent further expansion of the crisis.     The measures are conducive to the stability of the world economy and financial markets, Hu said.     The Chinese government has taken a series of important measures to tackle the financial crisis and maintain the stability of financial and capital markets, as well as ensure steady economic growth, he added.     The government of China will continue to assume a responsible attitude toward the Chinese people and people of other countries, and to work closely with the international community to maintain the stability of the global economy and financial markets, President Hu said.

BEIJING, Nov. 29 (Xinhua) -- Senior military officials of China and Myanmar agreed on Saturday to strengthen the relations of the two countries and armed forces in an all-around way.     The two countries should enhance military and state-to-state exchanges to promote regional peace, stability and prosperity, said Chen Bingde, chief of the General Staff of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA), while meeting his Myanmar's counterpart Shwe Mann.     Chen said the two sides have maintained cooperation in various fields, and witnessed smooth development in their military ties.     He hailed the firm support to each other in terms of national development and international affairs, especially those touching on the core interests of both nations.     As good neighbors since ancient times, China and Myanmar have helped each other to fight external aggression and to struggle for respective national independence and liberation in modern history, Chen said.     Shwe Mann, also member of the ruling Myanmar State Peace and Development Council (SPDC), agreed to strengthen bilateral ties in an all-around way.     He expressed appreciation for China's long-term support to Myanmar and reaffirmed Myanmar's adherence to the one-China policy.

MADRID, Jan. 30 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao arrived here Friday for an official visit aimed at further bolstering bilateral political ties and cultural exchanges between China and Spain.     Upon his arrival, Wen said in a written statement that China and Spain enjoy a time-honored friendship, and bilateral cooperation in various fields has been expanding steadily. BRUSSELS, Jan. 29 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao arrived in Brussels on Thursday evening for an official visit to the European Union (EU) headquarters.     The premier was welcomed at the Brussels international airport by European Commission officials, Belgian Foreign Ministry officials, officials of the Chinese mission to the EU and the Chinese embassy in Belgium, as well as Chinese students studying in Belgium.     In a written statement distributed to the press upon his arrival, Wen said the world is undergoing profound changes with a volatile international situation, more regional conflicts and a spreading financial crisis.     In this context, to enhance dialogue, promote consultations and deepen cooperation is in the interests of both China and the EU, and in line with the trend of the times, which is for peace, stability and development, he said.     Wen said he is looking forward to having frank and in-depth exchange of views with EU leaders on China-EU relations, on how to jointly deal with the global financial crisis, and on other international and regional issues of common concern.     "I hope and believe that this visit, as an important trip of confidence, will enhance the confidence of China and the EU in their future relations and in practical and mutually beneficial cooperation. I also hope and believe that this visit will enhance the confidence of the international community in the all-round strategic partnership between China and the EU," he said.     During his two-day visit in Brussels, Wen is scheduled to hold talks with European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso. The trip will also take him to Spain and Britain.
