(KGTV) — Guitar Center, the county's largest musical instrument retailer, is expected to file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy after reaching a deal to restructure its debt.According to Bloomberg, the retailer's restructuring plan aims to reduce its debt by 0 million. "With ten consecutive quarters of growth prior to the impact from COVID-19, we have been pleased with our resilient financial performance during these challenging times created by the pandemic," Guitar Center CEO Ron Japinga said in a statement. "As a result of this financial restructuring process, we will be better equipped to execute on and invest in our strategic growth initiatives and we will continue delivering through the strength of our brands, availability of our stores, customer-focused associate relationships, innovative music education programs and our expanding digital solutions."The plan includes 5 million in new investments from funds managed by the company's private equity owner Ares Management, the Carlyle Group, and Brigade Capital Management, Bloomberg reported.Filing for Chapter 11 would allow Guitar Center to keep operating while the company works to turn around its business performance. Employees and vendors would still be paid as usual under the move as well.The company's announcement adds that its services will not be interrupted during the debt restructuring, and that, prepaid lessons, rentals, gift cards, and all merchandise credits will still be honored.Guitar Center has three locations in San Diego County in San Marcos, La Mesa, and San Ysidro. 1567

  

(KGTV) - A Camp Pendleton Marine would have missed out on a special moment if not for a thoughtful wife and fellow Marines.Captain Gregory Veteto is the company commander of Company A, 1st Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment, with the 15th MEU’s Ground Combat Element.According to Cpl. Timothy Valero, he and his wife are expecting their second child. Since he is deployed, and could not be with his wife to find out the gender of their baby, she wanted to reveal it in a unique way.Veteto was a punter at the U.S. Naval Academy, so she filled a football with colored power and sent it his way.Surrounded by a group of Marines in the 5th Fleet area of operations, he kicked the ball.A big pink powdery cloud revealed they are having a baby girl.“It was fantastic breaking open the football,” Veteto said. “The Marines were excited about it and I appreciated that.” 872

  

(KGTV) — An inmate convicted of sexually assaulting a minor in San Diego was killed during an attack inside a California corrections facility this week.Officials said on Thursday, 41-year-old Jonathan Watson attacked two inmates with a weapon at California Substance Abuse Treatment Facility, and State Prison in Corcoran. Both inmates suffered head wounds and were taken to a local medical center.One inmate, 48-year-old David Bobb, died from his injuries while being taken to the hospital. Bobb was sentenced in San Diego on Oct. 17, 2015 to life in prison with the possibility of parole for aggravated sexual assault of a child under 14 years old.The other injured inmate is in critical condition at a local hospital.Officials say Watson has been serving a life sentence for first-degree murder and intentionally discharging a firearm causing great bodily injury or death.The prison specializes in substance abuse treatment and houses more than 5,400 inmates. 970
