A decision by McDonald’s to change the way it subsidizes franchisees could lead to an increase in the price of a Happy Meal.The fast food chain is reportedly getting rid of a decades-old deal with franchise owners that helps cover the cost of those Happy Meal toys.Starting in 2021, McDonald’s will stop sending the roughly 0 monthly contribution, called the “Happy Meal rent and service fee,” to it’s U.S. restaurants, according to an internal message."We recognize this subsidy has been in place for many years," reads the memo viewed by Business Insider. A federal judge expressed deep skepticism Friday in the bank fraud case brought by special counsel Robert Mueller's office against former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort, at one point saying he believes that Mueller's motivation is to oust President Donald Trump from office."You don't really care about Mr. Manafort's bank fraud," District Judge T.S. A man stood on a freeway overpass near Detroit early Thursday, threatening to jump. So thirteen tractor-trailers lined up underneath, ready to break his fall.Troopers closed off both directions of Interstate 696 and asked for the truckers' help, hoping to protect the man in case he fell or jumped, said Lt. Mike Shaw of the Michigan State Police.Asking truckers to help in such cases is not unusual, Shaw said, but "most of the time these events are (resolved) pretty fast, so we only get one semi."This time it took about three hours to get the man, whom police declined to identify, down from the bridge, he said.It was 911 calls that alerted police to the man around 1 a.m. Tuesday on the overpass in Huntington Woods, just outside Detroit, Shaw said."Once we figured out that this is a situation where someone might be contemplating taking their whole life ... we shut traffic down (and) we diverted it off onto the side streets," Shaw said.Troopers looked for big rigs exiting the highway and asked them to drive ahead instead and park beneath the overpass. The 13 trucks packed in tightly to minimize the gaps between them.Should the man have fallen, Shaw said, it would have been only five or six feet onto the roof of a truck, rather than 14 feet to the cement below.Police ended up talking the man down, he said."Usually when we talk to people that are involved in these type of incidents," Shaw said, "usually there's a trigger. A Glendale, Arizona mother has been arrested after reportedly leaving her toddler in a car for 90 minutes while she went shopping. Glendale police report that around 9 p.m. Monday, they were called to a shopping plaza at 91st and Northern avenues. Witnesses reported to police that there was a toddler in a car with no adult around. Police found the 2-year-old boy, "crying, dirty and covered in urine." The child's mother, 19-year-old Dakota Cheyanne Brown, was located in a nearby store. She allegedly told police that she was in the store for about 45 minutes and was checking on him by looking out the store window. Police say the car windows were darkly tinted and they couldn't see inside, even from a few feet away. Store employees allegedly told police that Brown was in the store for about 90 minutes. Store surveillance video reportedly shows that Brown never left the store to check on her son. Brown was arrested for endangerment and child abuse. 1011

A glitch to the IRS' e-file portion of its website prompted the IRS to push back the deadline to file taxes from today (April 17) to tomorrow (April 18). The IRS said that both individuals and businesses can take advantage of the extra filing day without penalty. “This is the busiest tax day of the year, and the IRS apologizes for the inconvenience this system issue caused for taxpayers,” said Acting IRS Commissioner David Kautter. “The IRS appreciates everyone’s patience during this period. The extra time will help taxpayers affected by this situation.”The IRS said that during the system outage, taxpayers were able to file their tax returns electronically through their software providers and Free File.Taxpayers using paper to file and pay their taxes at the deadline were not affected by the system issue, the IRS said. The glitch shuttered part of the IRS' website, not allowing some who file taxes online to complete their taxes.
