SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – San Diego County Supervisor Nathan Fletcher and other local health and community leaders urged San Diegans to put their focus on the fight against the coronavirus instead of the restrictions placed on businesses due to the pandemic.During a Monday morning press conference, Fletcher specifically called out fellow Supervisors Jim Desmond and Kristin Gaspar, who have been pushing for reopenings.“In particular Supervisors Jim Desmond and Kristen Gaspar are inciting a fight between government and small business. They’re exploiting the pain and suffering that small businesses are going through as a result of a global pandemic as a wedge for political gain. It is reckless and irresponsible leadership,” Fletcher said.Fletcher’s comments come as San Diego County inches towards the possibility of moving from the red tier into California’s most restrictive purple tier.In response to Fletcher’s remarks, Gaspar issued this statement:“This morning Supervisor Fletcher held a hellfire and brimstone press conference in which he ironically and incorrectly blamed me for playing politics with COVID. Let me set the record straight: I have never supported any approach to re-opening that was not specifically supported by our Public Health Officer and clinical leadership team. Supervisor Fletcher knows this but prefers to continue spreading this false narrative because he is actively running a campaign against me. I measured the distance between our office doors, and it is 7 feet, so he and I can actually have a socially distanced conversation anytime he isn’t holding a press conference. I will continue to do my job protecting public health and working with small businesses and leave the politics to Supervisor Fletcher.”Desmond did not immediately respond to Fletcher’s comments.On Monday afternoon, numerous local business owners will rally in front of the County Administration Building and call on county leaders to take local control of San Diego County’s reopening plan. 2008

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego Police are investigating after a couple was found dead in a Torrey Highlands home Saturday night. According to police, the couple was expected in San Francisco earlier in the day, but they never showed up. When police arrived at the home on the 7400 block of Via Rivera in Torrey Highlands just before 10 p.m., they saw the body of a person through a window of the home. After entering the house, officers found an Asian man and woman in their 50s dead with trauma to their upper bodies. 10News spoke to neighbors who were stunned to see all the police activity in their quiet neighborhood."Everybody seems to mind their own business, I haven't heard of any problems whatsoever," neighbor Salam Hasenin said. "I hope we go back to our peaceful environment and I just feel really sad and bad for the people."Nick Palermino shares a back wall with the victims' home. He did not recall any commotion happening Saturday night. "We have a dog that has a doggie door, and she wasn't barking last night at all," Palermino said. "I hope it is isolated to this one incident. I hope it is not burglary that went bad."According to police, the victims’ home does not appear to be disturbed. Detectives are investigating the deaths. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer has identified a park-and-ride lot in Scripps Ranch as a perfect place for new affordable housing, but neighboring businesses worry the plan will drive away their customers."You solve one problem and create ten new ones. There’s seven businesses that are going to suffer," said Yannis Pihas, owner of Yanni's Bar & Grill.Pihas says his customers, as well as visitors to the two hotels in the center, frequently use the park-and-ride because there is limited parking otherwise. While he's attempted to speak with city leaders about his concerns, so far he says he has not been given any indication that the housing project will include parking that the businesses can use.ABC 10News reached out to the city. A spokesperson says the project is still in the early process of planning and that details on potential parking have yet to be worked out. The spokesperson also said the public can always bring concerns to the area's planning board and that there will be more opportunities for public input once the plan is prepared.In a statement, Mayor Faulconer said, "There is a great need in our community for housing that gives folks a real chance to have a place of their own, but also the support system they need to stay housed. This public-private partnership will help transform these vacant City-owned properties into opportunities that will change the lives of so many of our fellow San Diegans for the better."The plan is expected to be finalized and brought to the City Council for a vote in 2021. 1566

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – San Diego police are investigating a series of scooter thefts that happened in the North Park neighborhood.Three scooters were stolen blocks from each other and reported one day apart.One was reported Tuesday in the 4800 block of Kansas Street.  Another two were reported stolen on Wednesday. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – San Diego Police are investigating after a woman who was shot in Barrio Logan Friday night died.Police were called to the 2400 block of Harbor Drive around 9 p.m. after receiving reports of a woman, later identified as 36-year-old Stephanie Kinman, who was shot in the area.When they arrived, officers found Kinman on the sidewalk near a vehicle.The Kinman was taken to the hospital where she later died.Throughout their investigation, detectives learned that the woman was shot near a pizza restaurant on the 1000 block of Dewey Street before being driven to Harbor drive by a “male companion.”The man told investigators that the victim got into a fight with a man and a woman. After the fight ended, Kinman was shot while getting into her car, police say.The shooter hasn’t yet been captured.
