LEMON GROVE, Calif. (KGTV) — Parents in Lemon Grove School District pulled their students from class Tuesday to protest against decisions being made, they say, without parent input. In March, 10News covered an emotional Lemon Grove school board meeting when parents fought to retain 16 teachers who had been designated for non-re-election. Those teachers chose to resign rather than have the designation placed on their permanent teaching records. The next regularly scheduled board meeting is Tuesday night, and parents plan to show up again to voice their complaints about the district, ranging from curriculum decisions, resource scarcity and student safety. One parent told 10News behavior issues are increasing in classrooms and the administration is failing to hold students accountable. A decline in classroom resources led her to pull one of her children from the district and enroll him in charter school. Several other parents at the rally say they have done the same, or are considering doing so, due to a variety of complaints. "We are not getting the basic resources and they are making decisions that don't make sense," says Rosa Carney. (CNS) - Four teenagers who allegedly assaulted a cab driver outside a La Mesa restaurant early Wednesday and stole his taxi while threatening him with a gun were arrested a short time later after abandoning the vehicle in a remote industrial area about six miles away, police reported.The group of youths called for a cab shortly before 1 a.m. at Denny's in the 6900 block of Alvarado Road in La Mesa, just east of San Diego State University, according to police.After boarding the Blue Star Cab vehicle, the quartet began quarreling over the fare, Lt. Greg Runge said. Two of them then punched the driver, prompting him to jump out of the taxi, the lieutenant said.At that point, one of the teens got behind the wheel of the cab, pointed a handgun at the victim and drove off, Runge said.Using signals from a GPS-tracking device in the stolen cab, police tracked the vehicle down it in the 10700 block of US Elevator Road in Spring Valley about 20 minutes later. The taxi was unoccupied, but a gun had been left behind inside, the lieutenant said.Officers searched the area with help from a sheriff's helicopter, soon capturing the suspects within a block of the abandoned taxi. The victim and a witness positively identified the group as the alleged perpetrators in a curbside lineup.Arrested were Jaden Razell Jones of Spring Valley and Kaitlyn Arianna Gendleman of El Cajon, both 19; 18-year-old Jacob Ronald Jensen of El Cajon; and a 17-year-old boy. LAKEWOOD, Colo. — A hospital parking lot isn’t the typical place for a family reunion, but after 69 days in the hospital, it was the perfect place for the Rael family to gather to celebrate the fact that Wanda Vigil is now going home.Wanda spend 69 days at St. Anthony Hospital in Lakewood battling COVID-19 — 42 of them on a ventilator.“She’s a fighter. We were told 20 days in she probably wasn’t going to make it,” brother Alan Rael said.Alan and about two dozen family members gathered in the parking lot of St. Anthony’s on Thursday as Wanda was discharged from the hospital.“It’s a beautiful thing. It’s miraculous,” sister Linda Deborah Sanchez said.Hospital workers lined the lobby in a socially distanced fashion to clap and cheer as Wanda was wheeled out. Her family was waiting outside with signs and hugs.“I am so grateful,” Wanda said.She still has a damaged vocal cord, meaning she can only whisper, and her family acknowledged that she had plenty of recovery still to go.“She still has a journey ahead of her, but she’s alive,” Sanchez said.“My heart is so happy. (KGTV) – An investigation was launched after at least one bullet struck a car traveling on state Route 94 in the Lemon Grove area.The California Highway Patrol said the incident was reported at around 3:30 a.m. on the eastbound side of SR-94, near College Avenue.According to CHP officials, the 63-year-old driver of a Cadillac CTS said he noticed a black or dark-colored sedan driving behind him for several miles prior to the gunfire.The Cadillac’s driver said the vehicle pulled up to his side and then shots were fired, shattering the driver’s side rear window.The vehicle continued on eastbound SR-94 as the Cadillac pulled over. ABC 10News learned the driver called 911 after the bullet came through the rear driver side window and lodged in the passenger side pillar.The driver was not injured.CHP shut down the right two lanes of the SR-94 from Lemon Grove to Federal Blvd for a few hours as part of their investigation. 956

According to the City of La Mesa, charges against Peter Carzis, 76, include one count of felony vandalism and three counts of misdemeanor battery.An additional misdemeanor charge of committing a lewd act in public was also issued for an incident that occurred on January 18. Monday, news crews gathered outside Peter’s Men’s Apparel, a clothing store owned by Carzis, to speak with him about reports of lewd acts occurring outside the store over the weekend. As cameras rolled, Carzis was seen cursing before attacking a news photographer and slapping the phone out of a reporter’s hand. Police said Carzis caused “irreparable damage to a video camera reported to be worth approximately ,000.”According to police, Carzis "is also the suspect in two other reported crimes, a misdemeanor battery and a misdemeanor lewd act in public" that occurred on Jan. 18 in front of his store.
