A Georgia high school teacher is under investigation after he was filmed telling a student he "might" shoot the kid in the head.Paul Hagan, a white physics teacher at Rockdale Career Academy, was filmed ranting against an unidentified black student, according to Atlanta's WSB-TV."Don't smile at me, man," Hagan is heard telling the student. "That's how people like you get shot."In the video, which WSB shared on Facebook, Hagan goes on to say, "I gotta bet by the time you're 21 somebody's gonna put a bullet right through your head. OK? And it might be me the one who does it."The video was apparently shot by another student.Officials at Rockdale Career Academy are investigating the incident. A California district attorney has charged two people with hate crimes after they attempted to paint over a "Black Lives Matter" street mural in a Bay Area town over the weekend.Nicole Anderson, 42, and David Nelson, 53, of Martinez, California, each face three charges, including violation of civil rights, according to the Office of Contra Costa County District Attorney Diana Becton.According to the DA, video taken over the weekend shows Anderson and Nelson using paint rollers to try and black out a large, yellow "Black Lives Matter" mural in downtown Martinez.In the video, which was shared widely on social media, a man appearing to be Nelson was wearing a "Make America Great Again" cap and a Trump campaign shirt that read "Four More Years.""The narrative of police brutality, the narrative of oppression, the narrative of racism, it's a lie," the man said."Keep this [expletive] in New York. This is not happening in my town," a woman, allegedly Anderson, said in the video.In addition to charges of civil rights violations, Anderson and Nelson also face charges of vandalism under 0 and possession of tools to commit vandalism or graffiti. They face a maximum of up to a year in jail if convicted."We must address the root and byproduct of systemic racism in our country," Becton, the District Attorney, said in a statement. "The Black Lives Matter movement is an important civil rights cause that deserves all of our attention. The mural completed last weekend was a peaceful and powerful way to communicate the importance of Black lives in Contra Costa County and the country. We must continue to elevate discussions and actually listen to one another in an effort to heal our community and country."Last month, following massive protests against police brutality and systemic racism, Washington, D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser commissioned that a large, yellow, Black Lives Matter mural be painted on a street near the White House. Dozens of other cities have since followed suit and created their own Black Lives Matter street murals.New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio has announced plans to paint a similar mural on Fifth Avenue outside of Trump Tower. A church choir in Madison, Tennessee is singing hymns to parishioners who are unable to safely leave the house during the pandemic.The choir at City Road Chapel United Methodist Church is visiting homes on Wednesday nights."Whether there are three of us or five or 10 of us, it is just a wonderful thing to be able to do," said Mary Lou Markham, a member of the choir.Markham said the group began singing together in the church parking lot a few weeks before this started."I said 'can't we at least meet in the parking lot and sing to the Lord?' So for two weeks, we sang in the church parking lot, a long way away..." she said.When a member of the choir broke his arms, the group visited and preformed for him outside his rehab facility. From there, they began visiting other parishioners who were cooped up inside."It has been unbelievable," said Brian Hanson. "The response has been tremendous and we have got as much of the blessing out of it as the people we've sung for."Brian Hanson is the director of music at City Road Chapel."I think music connects with the soul, mind, and spirit it's just something that's in people," Hanson said.On a recent Wednesday, the group sang for Evelyn McDowell at her home. The 92-year-old has been a member of the church since 1950."I've missed church and this was just a wonderful blessing," said McDowell."I couldn't go out much. A joint statement released by federal and state officials on Thursday described last week’s presidential election as the “most secure in American history” despite calls from President Donald Trump’s campaign that the election was “stolen.”The letter was signed by leaders of the Department of Homeland Security’s Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency, the U.S. Election Assistance Commission and the National Association of State Election Directors, among others. The Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency was established two years ago as a branch of Homeland Security during the Trump administration.In bold, the authors of the statement wrote, “There is no evidence that any voting system deleted or lost votes, changed votes, or was in any way compromised.” This statement matches those from secretaries of state and boards of election throughout the US.“The November 3rd election was the most secure in American history,” the statement reads. “Right now, across the country, election officials are reviewing and double checking the entire election process prior to finalizing the result.”The group says that claims of election fraud are “unfounded.”“While we know there are many unfounded claims and opportunities for misinformation about the process of our elections, we can assure you we have the utmost confidence in the security and integrity of our elections, and you should too,” the statement read. “When you have questions, turn to elections officials as trusted voices as they administer elections.”Earlier this week, CNN among other outlets, reported that the Department of Justice, under Attorney General Bill Barr’s direction, was launching an investigation into voting irregularities.
