SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A Kearny Mesa hotel will be used as a new coronavirus quarantine site in San Diego.The Ramada by Wyndham San Diego North Hotel & Conference Center will be utilized as a new quarantine site in San Diego, according to the hotel.Individuals heading to the location have undergone medical screenings and show only mild to no symptoms. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A record number of voters have already cast their ballots in San Diego County. Registrar Michael Vu said of the 1.92 million voters in the county, 1,081,727 already voted as of Sunday. The Registrar of Voters pushed for early voting in 2020 to avoid crowds on election days and Vu said that hope has been met.“I’ve never seen numbers like this in advance of Election Day before,” said Vu.He said that they’re expecting between 80% and 85% turnout this year. With two more days to cast ballots, they’re not sure what method the remaining voters will use to vote. He added that in the 2016 presidential election, close to 500,000 people voted in person on Election Day, and it’s possible that many could still vote in person Tuesday, meaning the traditional Election Day lines could still be seen.“Hundreds of thousands of individuals we’re still expecting to vote and the question is will they vote with their mail ballot or will they vote in person,” said Vu.He said the fate of the next couple of days are in the hands of the voters and how they decide to vote.Vu added that if and when people vote, they’re encouraged to go to their designated super poll location. There are 235 super polls across the county. Residents can locate their polling place online here. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A police pursuit involving a man who failed to yield that started in the Los Angeles area took authorities all the way to San Diego Thursday.The suspect, later identified as Karl Flores, 34, was driving a red Honda Civic when he failed to yield on Washington Boulevard at about 11 a.m., according to California Highway Patrol. The man had first been reported as a stolen vehicle suspect, but police eventually said that was not the case.Flores then took police on a pursuit through the Los Angeles area, at one point hitting a pedestrian riding a scooter. The pedestrian suffered non-life threatening injuries, according to police.WATCH THE PURSUIT LIVE:Flores continued into the Inglewood area before avoiding a PIT maneuver by police that sent the Honda spinning, KABC reported. He continued fleeing police, avoided more PIT maneuver attempts, and drove from southbound Interstate 405 to Interstate 5 into San Diego.The vehicle stopped on I-5 near Las Pulgas Rd. at about 1:30 p.m., prompting a police standoff and Sig Alert was issued for both directions of I-5 at Las Pulgas Rd. CHP said it appeared the vehicle had run out of gas. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A recently transformed motel in the Egger Highlands community is now housing homeless families during the pandemic.The city started plans to transform a former Super 8 motel into transitional housing to help people in a drug and alcohol diversion program, called S.M.A.R.T.However, the city officials say the pandemic created a more significant need to house homeless families. The Convention Center was turned into a temporary shelter during the pandemic, housing individuals from the city's bridge shelters. However, the environment was not appropriate for families, said Ashley Bailey, press secretary for Mayor Kevin Faulconer."The transitional housing facility here on Palm Avenue was finishing construction in May, so we identified it as a potential area to expand and offer more space for families," Bailey said. "Having this facility gives families and children a place to come in, be safe, be sanitary, and get connected to services so they can get on to a better life."Erikssa Martinez recently moved into the facility with her husband and three kids."It's set up like a big hotel room, its really nice, my kids are happy to be here," she said.Martinez says the Alpha Project helped get into the facility. They had been homeless since December and had been staying with relatives, or in motels. She says she and her husband have slept in their cars on some nights, after dropping off their kids with family members."We've been looking forward to is having some kind of stability, where we're not stuck in our car for hours waiting where we're going to have to a place to stay at," Martinez said.They also have access to more services, and Martinez hopes that her will be able to get into permanent housing soon.The city plans to still use the transformed motel as transitional housing for S.M.A.R.T. when the property is no longer needed to shelter homeless families during the pandemic. 1924
