The FDA has ended an emergency use authorization (EUA) order for hydroxychloroquine, saying that the agency has determined that drug is "unlikely to be effective in treating COVID-19."In the announcement, the agency said that the benefits of hydroxychloroquine and a related drug, chloroquine phosphate, "no longer outweigh the known and potential risks for the authorized use."The FDA issued the EUA for the drug in March. In April, the FDA warned that the drug should only be used in hospital settings due to the severe side effects some experienced while taking the drug.Shortly after the coronavirus arrived in the United States, President Donald Trump touted the drug as a potential treatment for the disease. He encouraged those sickened with the virus to take the drugs, saying, "what do you have to lose?"Trump said he took the drug for a few weeks in May as several White House staffers contracted the virus. In an open letter, White House physician Sean Conley said he prescribed the drugs after determining that the "potential benefit from treatment outweighed the relative risks."Earlier this month, a study showed that the drug was likely not effective in treating COVID-19. The FBI and Toledo, Ohio police are searching for a suspect in an armed bank robbery who was mistakenly released from jail earlier this week.According to the FBI, Don Woodson Ellis Jr. allegedly robbed a bank in Toledo on Monday and was arrested and held at the Lucas County Corrections Center. He was mistakenly released on Wednesday night around 10:30 p.m.At the time, he was wearing a black t-shirt, light blue shorts/jeans to the knee and white tennis shoes with dark laces.He was using the name Antwon Moore at the time of the departure from the jail. He is also considered armed and dangerous.The Lucas County Sheriff's Office said Ellis "used deception" to be released back into the community.According to the FBI, he could be in Michigan given his previous criminal record which includes pleading guilty to bank robbery and fleeing/eluding police in Monroe County.Ellis is described as a black male, 28 years old, 6-feet tall weighing 150 pounds.  983

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has cleared the Boeing 737 Max to return to the skies, The Associated Press reports.The plane has been grounded in the U.S. since March 2019 after it was involved in two deadly crashes just months after initial orders for the model had been fulfilled. The two crashes — one which occurred in Africa, the other in Asia — killed a combined 346 people.In Congressional hearings last September, Boeing officials say the plane's software included a fatal flaw that caused a nosedive in certain situations.In addition to the human cost of the software error, the Boeing 737 Max has proven to be malignant for Boeing's business. According to CNN, Boeing says the grounding of the 737 Max has resulted in billion in direct costs. Boeing's stock fell 100 points between March 2019 and January 2020 — a massive loss even before the COVID-19 pandemic dragged the entire market down with historic losses. "These 20 months they took to look at every possible issue with the aircraft is more than enough time to make it safe to go back in the air," said Kevin Kuhlmann, an Aviation and Aerospace Science Professor at Metro State University. "It's no small undertaking to go through and develop this training, put the pilots through the training and absorb the cost of the training."In October, American Airlines announced it would begin using the plane on certain routes in late December, pending FAA approval. The cougar spotted traveling through Brookfield, Wisconsin last week was caught on video on someone's front porch.Surveillance video shared with Scripps station TMJ4 in Milwaukee by Dan and Bridget Guerndt shows the cougar coming out from trees. The cougar goes up the residents' driveway and puts its paws on the front window.The footage was captured at 6:30 a.m. on Sunday, February 18.On Saturday, a Brookfield resident called the Department of Natural Resources when they saw a cougar lying in their backyard, under a pine tree.Though they confirmed the animal was a cougar, officers were unable to neutralize it because of the surrounding homes and thick brush.DNR agents went back to the scene on Sunday morning, but the cougar was gone.The fifty pounds and approximately 1-year-old cougar was tracked, but the trail was lost.Experts believe this cougar was the same one that was spotted in Washington County two weeks ago. 967
