"They ingest the lead from the environment, either like from (a) carcass that was shot with lead or from lead sinkers that fish swallow," said Betsy Finch, rehabilitation manager at the Raptor Recovery Center.They are asking that hunters change ammo from lead to other types of bullets like copper. Nebraska hunter Douglas Finch made the change and recommends others to do the same. "The copper bullets they retain 95% or better of their weight which transfers that energy into the animal and, in my experience, I think it results in a cleaner kill," Finch said.For now, the dead bald eagle serves as a reminder of change Lewis hopes to see. With stay-at-home orders and continued safety precautions to stop the spread of the coronavirus keeping humans at home or away from each other, robots and automated systems have been picking up some of the slack.The World Economic Forum says the COVID-19 pandemic has forced the labor market to change faster than expected, embracing automation and robotic helpers to keep businesses going while human employees have to stay home or remain socially distant.That acceleration will disrupt, or displace, roughly 85 million jobs around the world by 2025, according to the group’s Future of Jobs Report 2020.According to the report, by 2025, roles and jobs that leverage human skills will rise in demand. Machines will primarily be focused on information and data processing, administrative tasks and routine manual jobs.The group says emerging professions in the next several years will be in data and artificial intelligence, content creation and cloud computing. They also say employers will be looking for these top skills among their employees: analytical thinking, creativity and flexibility.“COVID-19 has accelerated the arrival of the future of work,” said Saadia Zahidi, Managing Director, World Economic Forum. “Accelerating automation and the fallout from the COVID-19 recession has deepened existing inequalities across labour markets and reversed gains in employment made since the global financial crisis in 2007-2008. It’s a double disruption scenario that presents another hurdle for workers in this difficult time. The window of opportunity for proactive management of this change is closing fast.”The “robot revolution” could create 97 million new jobs. Those industries most at-risk of job disruption will need to re-skill workers to ensure they are qualified for these new opportunities and the business remains competitive, the report says. 1865

  

Women have been hit harder by job loss during the pandemic, according to an analysis by the Institute for Women's Policy Research.It found in April that the unemployment rate for women increased almost three percentage points above the rate for men. It's a direct contrast to the 2008 recession, which left more men out of work.The institute says this time is different because women dominate the fields that have had the most coronavirus-related layoffs, like hospitality and education.Women of color are even more heavily impacted, with the unemployment rate highest amongst Hispanic women.The institute's president and CEO, C. Nicole Mason, says many of those were low wage jobs.“Many of these women, both black and Latina women, women of color were economically vulnerable before the start of the pandemic,” said Mason. “And the pandemic has only worsened those circumstances and their vulnerability.It's disheartening after a strong start to the year, when the institute celebrated women making up 50% of the workforce.They tell us women will face more challenges getting back to work compared to men.“If it feels hard, it's because it is,” said Mason. “Communities, businesses, as well as policy makers need to step up to make sure that women who are unemployed have the opportunity to reenter the workforce and those who can't have the necessary social supports they need to be able to take care of their families.”The institute says the biggest barrier is a lack of childcare support.
