Authorities hope it might make them think twice before drinking and driving.The mock DUI crash played out on the field at Sage Creek High School and it all looked very real. The aftermath of a drunk driving crash, fellow classmates injured or dead and one of their own eventually arrested for getting behind the wheel.For CHP Officer Mark Latulippe, the program, called Every 15 Minutes, takes on an ever greater meaning this year.A few months ago, his cousin Scott Latulippe, Scott’s wife and son were hit and killed by a suspected drunk driver in Austin, Texas. Scott was a well-known teacher at Valley Center High School.The message at the event Tuesday was lives forever changed because of drinking and driving. The sentiment was echoed by Officer Latulippe who says his family’s story, although tragic, is all too common.The program will continue at Sage Creek High School Wednesday with a mock funeral and presentation from Officer Latulippe. 1190

CAPE CORAL, Fla., — A Florida utilities crew discovered a fossil archeologists now believe may be of a woolly mammoth or mastodon.The crew was digging in a trench 17 feet below the ground in Cape Coral last month.The crew turned over the fossil to the city which brought in archeologists to assess it.Robert Carr with the Archeological and Historical Conservancy says the fossil fragment was probably part of the mammoth’s humorous bone, or upper arm.The fossil is roughly one foot long and 10 inches wide.He estimates the fossil is 12,500 to 250,000 years old, based on similar discoveries.According to the report, during that time "glacial retreat led to the formation of savannas across Florida and herds of mammoth, bison, antelope, and horse roamed the peninsula."According to the Florida Museum of Natural History (FMNH), there are only two recorded mammoth fossil sites in Lee County.However, Carr believes there may be other fossil beds within the city with the remains of other extinct mammals.The City of Cape Coral plans to donate the fossil to the Cape Coral Historical Museum in the coming months. 1138

(KGTV) - Twenty-nine migrants were processed at the Calexico Port of Entry after non-profits say they were separated from their children and deported.Sandra Cordero, Director at Families Belong Together, said 27 children ages 5 to 15 have been separated from their parents. Some for more than a year. Cordero said the parents came from Central America, including Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador.Together Rising and Al Otro Lado raised money to fly the parents to Tijuana. Cordero said they stayed in Tijuana for two weeks preparing to go to the Calexico Port of Entry. Cordero said they presented themselves Saturday morning and U.S. Customs and Border Protection told them the detention center was at capacity.While waiting, Cordero shared some of the parents' stories, "he was trying to prepare his son because he knew they would be separated but he couldn't find the words or the feeling of how he was going to tell him that," Speaking about a man named Jose from Guatemala. He stood beside her while she spoke and wiped away tears. After 10 hours, the parents were brought in to process their asylum requests."We just found out that they're going to accept five families at a time and they're letting them all in, so thank you thank you thank you," Amanda Doyle, Vice President of Together Rising, said tearfully."I think it was really us, our presence here, and the presence of all of our supporters online, calling tweeting, pressuring, we're so lucky to have all these supporters that made today happen," Cordero said.Cordero said they would be back Sunday to ensure the parents were being processed quickly so they may be connected with their U.S. sponsors and ultimately reunited with their children.
