A man used electronic purchase alerts from his bank on a credit card he never received, to track down an alleged crook within hours.In the early morning hours of June 21, Josh Blair noticed an alert on his Apple watch confirming a purchase he made at a nearby gas station.But Blair told KSBY he didn't spend at the gas station and, in fact, Blair said he never even received the new American Express card in the mail the purchase was made on.He decided to find out who was using his new credit card around Santa Barbara.Surveillance footage from Blair's apartment complex shows a man unlock the mailbox and withdraw the envelope containing Blair's credit card.After speaking with officials at the post office, Blair said he learned the key to the boxes was lost and the lock had not yet been replaced.Throughout the morning, a series of charges hit Blair's account, all within miles of his home. So after filing a police report, he decided to track the crook himself."I talked to a friend earlier and he said 'OK, be careful.' And I said 'I guarantee I catch him within 24 hours,'" Blair recounted. "It was actually two hours from that time, I remember. I didn't spend much time thinking about what would happen."Throughout the afternoon, Blair raced from business to business as charges appeared on his card, each time, just missing the thief.Then, Blair got a charge alert from the newly opened hotel and restaurant, so he rushed over and spoke to the bartender."He was like 'yea, I'm sure that guy was just here, he just left the bar. I believe he's staying here, let me go check,'" Blair recalled. "He did that then came back and said the guy just ran out in the parking lot. He told me where, so I ran after him and so did the bartender, he helped me out. That's where we caught up with him and basically apprehended him."Blair said he and the bartender held the man until police arrived.Police arrested the man and Blair said police told him there is an arrest warrant for the suspect in nearby Los Angeles County.This story originally reported by Aja Goare on KSBY.co

A couple in North Carolina has been using the same set of numbers to play the state’s lottery for 26 years, and recently, that loyalty paid off.Terry Coggeshall and wife won more than 6,000 in the Cash 5 jackpot.“These are my wife’s numbers that we’ve been playing for 26 years,” said Coggeshall in a release from the North Carolina Education Lottery. “We started playing them in Florida when we lived there.”Coggeshall says their lucky numbers have gotten them close to the jackpot a few times. When picking up the check from the lottery headquarters he said, “I can’t wait to see my wife’s face when she looks at the check.”After state and federal tax withholdings, the Coggeshall’s will take home just under 0,000.“It’s very exciting,” said Coggeshall. “It takes a lot of stress off. A jury has found Akayed Ullah guilty of last year's attack in an underground walkway of the New York subway system, a spokeswoman for the federal prosecutor's office said Tuesday.Footage from the tunnel showed Ullah detonate a bomb on his person during morning rush hour December 11, 2017. The tunnel connects two subway lines beneath the Port Authority Bus Terminal in Manhattan.Six people were injured in the blast. A carjacker is dead on Milwaukee north side, shot by the man he was trying to rob according to police.Officers said the shooter was legally carrying a gun and is now cooperating with them.People living near the incident said it is concerning since the attempted carjacking happened around the same time they start their day.Just before 6 a.m. Monday, police said a 21-year-old with a gun tried to steal a car from a man on his way into work. "It's really sad that a person would do that as far as try to rob someone who was going to work," said Kinyata Hendriex who lives nearby."A lot of young people think this is a game and that's it's just only fun. This is not fun," said Milwaukee Police Captain Andra Williams.The victim had a concealed carry permit, pulled out his own gun and fired. People say even if the shooting was justified it is not something someone should have to live with."Life threatened, if you got the opportunity then certainly it's within their right to go ahead and do that. It's sad," said nearby business owner Sean O'Byrne."I think it's a tragic situation. It's sad," said Hendriex.Police don't think the man who was shot was alone. A federal judge has dismissed several charges against Dr. Jumana Nagarwala in the historic female genital mutilation case, ruling that the federal law against female genital mutilation is unconstitutional.U.S. District Court Judge Bernard Friedman ruled that Congress did not have the power to enact a federal law that banned female genital mutilation in the United States.Instead, Friedman made the argument that the law was too broad and it violated Congress' powers, as the law does not stand up to scrutiny under either the Necessary and Proper Clause or the Commerce Clause of the US Constitution.He also found that laws penalizing Female Genital Mutilation should be handled at the state level, similar to laws regarding Criminal Sexual Conduct, battery or child abuse.  Shannon Smith is the Defense Attorney for Dr. Nagarwala.  She says the ruling is "absolutely a huge victory. When you actually studied the law they enacted, there was no constitutional basis for them to enact the law. It’s really an issue that should be left to the states."Smith also claims the doctors did not perform Female Genital Mutilation, saying instead they performed a mild form of female circumcision."What Dr. Nagarwala was doing, if we had gone to trial, would have been vindicated that she was not mutilating little girls. While we’re happy with the victory and we’ll certainly take it, there’s a part of me that’s a little disappointed that the public isn’t going to see the evidence brought out at a trial to see that she was never guilty of it in the first place," Smith said.The ruling comes after Friedman also dismissed a "conspiracy to transport minor with intent to engage in criminal sexual activity" charge in January. That was the only count that could have lead to life in prison for both Nagarwala and Dr. Fakhruddin Attar.Friedman's ruling leaves two counts in place in the case.
