"Ghosting" — The term is usually reserved in online dating when a prospective date doesn't call or text back. Now, it's being used on prospective employers when new hires don't show up for their first day of work.Liz Blondy has roughly 80 employees covering her various K-9 to 5 pet care locations and says she's fallen victim to a trend of ghosting. "It's strange because it’s like where did they go?" Blondy said.Experts say part of the reason for the sudden disappearing act is actually good news: a stronger economy. "There’s more jobs for people so they have more options, they have more choices," Blondy said. However, the toll the trend takes on those who get ghosted is more than just the equivalent of an emotional rollercoaster. "A lot of these candidates we get really excited about, so to have them not show up can be disappointing and also expensive," Blondy said. "We start with the group interview, we have them come back to do a work assessment. the HR person spends time creating a schedule, the onboarding…we’ve already spent a couple of hundred dollars before they even walk in the door their first day." 1166
(AP) - Rocker Ted Nugent says the Florida students calling for gun control have "no soul" and are "mushy brained children."The 69-year-old made the comments Friday while defending the National Rifle Association as a guest on the Joe Pags show, a nationally syndicated conservative radio program.Nugent, a longtime member of the NRA's board of directors, said survivors of the Feb. 14 shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School are wrong to blame the NRA and its members for mass shootings.RELATED: Fox News host Laura Ingraham faces advertiser backlash after mocking Parkland survivor"These poor children, I'm afraid to say, it hurts me to say, but the evidence is irrefutable: They have no soul," Nugent said. He added that the gun control measures the students support amount to "spiritual suicide" and "will cause more death and mayhem."A representative for Nugent did not respond to a request for comment on Saturday. Some Parkland students responded on social media and demanded an apology."If only he saw all the tears. If only he had to look into the eyes I've looked into. If only he saw what this did to all of us," junior Cameron Kasky said on Twitter. "And here the NRA is, receiving more fear-based donations than ever. Talk about 'no soul.' This guy better apologize. Seriously."RELATED: Parkland school shooting: Memorial at Stoneman Douglas High School dismantledSenior Kyra Parrow said it's funny that the NRA rails against bullying while Nugent was "being a 5 year old acting like a bully" to her and her classmates.Nugent made the comments the same day several advertisers dropped Fox News personality Laura Ingraham after she mocked a survivor of the Parkland shooting online.Ingraham said Friday she will take a weeklong "Easter break" with her children while guest hosts fill in on her show, "The Ingraham Angle."She drew backlash Wednesday when she shared an article on Twitter saying student David Hogg had been rejected by four colleges and was whining about it. She later apologized and said Hogg should be proud of his grades. 2075

San Diego (KGTV) There’s a battle over prime real estate in Hillcrest. There were plans to use the Third Avenue location for luxury housing, but some county leaders are hoping to use the space as a way to serve the homeless dealing with mental health challenges. Over a decade ago, the location once served as a center for adolescents. The county had plans to use the 7-acre lot for luxury condos. “I don’t believe that the public policy changes we face as a region is a shortage of luxury condos,” says County Supervisor Nathan Fletcher. “I believe the public policy challenge we face as a region is an investment in behavioral health services.”The vacant space on Third Avenue sits less than a mile from Scripps Mercy Hospital and UCSD Medical Center, Hillcrest. “We have 50 to 100 patients in our emergency rooms every day that need some form of mental health services,” says Patty Maysent, CEO of UC San Diego Health. The facility would offer services like psychiatric care and substance abuse. “A lot of folks go to the emergency room, get the most expensive care, get stabilized, and they have nowhere to go,” said Fletcher. The County Board of Supervisors will vote on the proposed site on Wednesday. 1217
