SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A report from SANDAG Thursday showed that unemployment in San Diego County fell for the sixth straight week.San Diego County now has a 14.8% unemployment rate for the week ending June 20 -- that's down 1.5% from the previous week, and significantly lower than the peak of 25% on May 9."We're not out of the woods at all," warned SANDAG Chief Economist Ray Major. "This is still 50% higher than the highest unemployment we had during the great recession."Major said a 14.8% unemployment rate means 200,000 San Diegans are still out of work. According to the report, ZIP codes in Logan Heights, City Heights, Encanto, the College area, and San Ysidro are the hardest hit.Major told ABC 10News the looming threat of renewed restrictions on businesses may lead to another rise in unemployment."Many of these businesses have been waiting to open up again," said Major. "They haven't made any revenue for the last couple of months, they were open for about 19 days and now you're telling them they have to shut down again. Some of them are not going to be able to make it."Phil Blair, Chief Executive of Manpower Staffing, which helps companies find temporary employees, said he doesn't think unemployment will fall below 10% until the tourism industry recovers."We've got to open up airports, we've got to open up our convention center," Blair said. "And all of us have to be comfortable flying and then going into a big room with 8, 10, 12,000 people … Then we'll see (unemployment) at 13, 12 percent. And then once the virus dies down, I think within three months we'll be back within 5 or 6 percent. That's my prediction."The five ZIP codes with lowest unemployment rates are Del Mar, Carmel Valley, Rancho Santa Fe, Chula Vista NE and Rancho Bernardo W. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A Mission Hills business complex plagued by homeless loiterers for weeks posted videos on Ring Neighbors Sunday, receiving sympathy and frustration from the community.The latest video, taken Saturday night at 10:20 p.m. shows a man walking away from a business's door. The caption said the man was trying the door handle.The first of six videos is dated June 26th. Just before 1 a.m. it shows what looks like a man walking a bike into an alcove where the mailboxes hang on the wall, and setting up a walker.Then, July first just before 2 a.m. a different man walks a bicycle in, surveys the mailboxes with a flashlight, talking with a friend who walks in behind him carrying two bags. The second man said he stays there a lot.July 16th, around 3 a.m. a man looks like he's arranging an area to sleep. July 24th, at 11:44 p.m. a woman comes in sits down and charges her phone. The caption on the video says the landlord removed the electrical outlet after the video was recorded.July 31st around 10:15 p.m. the owner spoke through the Ring doorbell, asking if she could help the homeless man who was sleeping in front of her business. He replied, "No you can't help me with anything, thank you though, I'm just sitting here for a minute, thank you for interrupting my peace and quiet, thank you. I hate humanity, I hate people." She responded, "Well you're actually on private property right now," he fired back, "I'm on private property everywhere I go, I don't care." He then told her to burn in hell, packed up and left."It's infectious for every neighborhood," neighbor Jeff Olson said. He moved into the neighborhood in April and says he doesn't see as many homeless people in Mission Hills compared to El Cajon."It's a shame. What do you do? SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A jury returned several guilty verdicts Friday against a La Jolla restaurant owner accused of raping eight women who he either drugged or knew were too intoxicated to consent to sex.Jurors found 61-year-old Daniel Dorado guilty of 20 counts in connection with alleged rapes that happened in 2009, 2014, 2015, 2017, and 2018. Some of the counts Doroado was found guilty of include two counts of rape of an unconscious person; two counts of rape of an intoxicated person; two counts of assault with intent to commit rape, sodomy oral copulation or sexual penetration of an unconscious or intoxicated person; two counts of sexual penetration of an unconscious person with an unknown object; and two counts of sexual penetration of an intoxicated person with an unknown object.Dorado had faced 35 felony counts. The jury acquitted him on three counts, deadlocked on six counts, and have not yet reached verdicts on six remaining counts. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A local whale watcher captured a rare sight off the coast of San Diego this week.A blue whale and its calf were captured on drone video by photographer Domenic Biagini Wednesday about 12 miles off the coast of Mission Beach.The beautiful sight isn't something many videographers have the chance to see, Biagini told 10News.RELATED: Thar she blows! According to police, the incident happened around 9:30 a.m. at the Mills Building on Imperial Avenue downtown. The building houses San Diego County government offices. Police say the man threatened an employee on the 5th floor of the building before damaging computer monitors in the office.
